Here are some pictures from my garden, took forever to upload to imgur, need a better site but enjoy. Radishes sprouted a week or so ago looking good So have the Beets probably 3 or so days ago Bought a few broccoli starts at the store they seem to doing fine Beans and peas have just started to come up, lots of these little guys poking their heads out Some of my overwintered lettuce and sadly overwintered carrots (i think they will bolt before they do anything) Rhubarb is hardy as heck Results of my somewhat failed experiment to start Chard a bit early, kind of weakly looking Overwintered Kale it was 2 or 3 leaves all winter but now its growing like crazy More overwintered Kale, this one started off the winter pretty big and is bolting Leeks are ready to eat Raspberry are just putting out leaves Blueberry Flowers Plum tree is about done blooming
We've got going - Kale - Basil - Rosemary - Thyme - Tomatoes (San Marzano and Beefstake) - Borage I've still got some seeds for Habaneros and Lettuce that haven't been started yet. The internet has informed us that we were overwatering the shit out of our poor kale. The warning sign was when mushrooms sprouted. There might be some hard choices ahead if we can't scrounge up enough containers to rehome all the wee little sproutlets.
We have a 5'x8' recessed north-facing balcony that gets no sunshine at all on any day of the year. So we are restricted to what can grow in full shade in zone 8. We have Spanish bluebells and anemone de caen in one planter. We planned last fall. Due to a warm front one anemone sprouted in December and the rest rotted I think. That one did just barely survive, and the bluebells went dormant properly and came up in February. So we have a dozen bluebells with one anemone in the middle. We have a small pot with forget-me-nots and a couple with lily-of- the-valley. We planted some "Dorothy Rose" variety columbines which everyone suggests putting in at least partial sun, but I planted some in a big pot anyway for sentimental reasons. I got a Turks cap which is native here from Lowe's and put it in a big pot, but I don't think it had enough time to get established before the cold weather hit and it is dead. I have a gift card to a better nursery that will have more in stock next week so I should have better luck with that one.
