I've been following this in the news since I posted this article.

I don't know how I feel about this. That's a ton of power in Disney's hands, from back catalogs to production to distribution. They were already massive as it is, this is just a whole new level.

Agreed. The "that is all" really jumps out at me because of how much more this is.

I remember hearing something recently that Disney was looking to purchase the rights for the other Marvel properties from Fox, but it had fallen through. I suppose they went with the same route that Activision went through with when they bought Blizzard. "If you can't beat them, buy them."

Maybe they won't be the comic book red headed step child anymore

Oh, you're talking about movie studios.

I'm talking about everything. Movie studios. Distribution systems. Intellectual property. It's crazy.

Disney is pretty big as it is. Here's a list of all of their assets, some of them seem kind of repetitive, but you still get a pretty good idea.

Here's what they stand to gain in the acquisition.

The argument is that it'll give them a competive edge against other media companies, from traditional ones like Universal and NBC to modern ones like Netflix and Google, but to me, this feels like way too much. How do you expect companies like Netflix to compete against that? Shoot, if this merger goes through to get half the pop entertainment out there you'll have to do business with Disney or miss out.

Edit: The best analogy I can think of is GM wanting to buy out Toyota because they say the competition from companies such as Tesla and Mazda as too tight.
