Roy Moore is evil. I do not use that word lightly. He has no regard for the US tradition of a liberal democracy and wants instead a theocratic authoritarian government.
- Mr Moore, 70, is best known for losing his position as the state's top judge twice. The first time, he had flouted a court order to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the courthouse.
When the people of Alabama elected him to the court again, he was suspended a second time for defying the US Supreme Court's 2015 ruling legalising gay marriage.
And now he is a US Senator, or will be in December. The DNC is bothering to contest the race. I am opposed to term limits, but maybe we need an age limit on elected political animals. Nobody over 70 can run or hold office. You grew up four generations ago, your time is up.
Oh, 50 state strategy, where have you gone? Edit to add article on the Dem candidate running against him and talking about how the plan is to now use Roy Moore to get the base out to the polls.
Yup. From goobster's post, here, when Jeff Stein interviewed Roy Moore: Roy Moore (RM): There are communities under Sharia law right now in our country. Up in Illinois. Christian communities; I don’t know if they may be Muslim communities. But Sharia law is a little different from American law. It is founded on religious concepts. JS: Which American communities are under Sharia law? When did they fall under Sharia law? RM: Well, there’s Sharia law, as I understand it, in Illinois, Indiana — up there. I don't know. JS: That seems like an amazing claim for a Senate candidate to make. RM: Well, let me just put it this way — if they are, they are; if they’re not, they’re not. That doesn’t matter. Oklahoma tried passing a law restricting Sharia law, and it failed. Do you know about that? JS: No, I don’t. RM: Well, it did. The thing about it is it shouldn’t have failed because it can be restricted because it’s based on religious principles ... That's who the people of Alabama feel represents them. The candidate Trump backed wasn't radical enough for these people. Let that sink in. Ugh, and the written transcript is more nonsensical than something lifted from an improv'd Trump address.Jeff Stein (JS): Some right-wing conservatives think Sharia law is a danger to America — do you?
I wonder if Democrats have a base left in Alabama, given that they've been unwilling to fight for anything but the sure thing in a couple decades.
