I'm back on the East coast for a week for my sister's graduation, which means I get to spend time with one of my favorite creatures, Ollie the dog:
Here's a cute li'l gif of him covering his eyes with his paws.
He is an absolute fucking goober, and I love him dearly. Making him a new bandana as we speak.
Show me your pets, Hubski!
Here is the Bailey (who is a long haired Dachshund mutt I think) with the Cat. The Cat was the best animal I ever had but died a little while ago after a stroke. You would never know it by looking at his eyes but he was blind from a brain tumor crushing his optical nerve, Another of Bailey, looking at the squirrels out the back window: Here is the Kitty which is my new cat. He is my third favorite cat of all-time. Super gregarious and fearless. Why stop there! I long-term dog-sat this Belgian Malinois named Rex that is the most perfectly trained dog I have ever met. Awesome family dog until you give him commands in German and then he immediately turns into a work machine. Here are my 2 favorite foster dogs Max and Roxy. The beagle was an absolute shit disturber that especially loved to ambush Roxy when she was napping. Look at those eyes; he knows he is being a dick. They were inseparable. And finally a dog that I helped look after for a while: Red exhausted after a long walk. He was shot and paralyzed defending his owner during a home invasion. We never thought Red would ever find a forever home as he was so very labor intensive but it did happen after 2 and a half years! Here is an up-lifting video about that. See the green rope in the pic? Watch for the green things in this vid. He absolutely loved green for some reason.)
Gracie is the biggest bird and super independent, but she'll fall right alseep if you pick her up and pet her. Here's Gracie and me, sleeping: Bertha knows she can fly out of the cage, but she'll only do it if I'm standing there to hold her. Other times, if she wants out, she'll lock eyes with you and do this little dance thing and if you put your hand down, she'll step up onto it. We eat breakfast together sometimes.
Not a pet story, but I don't know if it's due to climate change or what, but there has been an absolute boom in the lizard population where I live. Most years, I'd come across little skinks and other typical, common lizards probably four or five times a year. This year though? Dala and I see that many on a slow week. They're all over the place. Crawling along the rockwalls, in the mulch, scurrying into the garage. If there's a place to find a lizard, chances are, there's one there. If they were there all along, I don't think I'd appreciate them as much, but this is absolutely great. If I sit still on the back patio as the dog suns herself, I'll be garunteed to see at least one, and sometimes it'll come within ten feet of me. When you mix them in with the sounds of the cicadas, the birds, and general sounds of the neighborhood, it makes for a great summer experience.
