I was very impressed that it not only got the technology down right with it being so far away, but also had the prescience to accurately realize the greater effects it would have on our interpersonal relations. That part of the equation has been obscure to people even as recently as the last decade. I think it's interesting that there's such a negative connotation with the predictions here. Similar futurism in the 50's was all bright and utopian. It definitely speaks to the environment from which it was borne.

By the way, thanks for the pick and discussion about it. There's a special thoughtfulness behind the story that is definitely valuable in the scificlub.

It is interesting; in 1909, the world wasn't exactly stable. It's definitely written from a gloomier (I would argue realistic) perspective.

And no problem, I'm happy to contribute.
