cgod  ·  3023 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Yes, we do have the right to judge!

I think we are all fairly comfortable judging here.

I judge your piece as somphomoric pseudo-philosophical drivel, come back when you get over your anti-religious dogma fetish and try again.

Who in their right mind would want to get updates from your website? Turn that shit off, it's tacky.

Try engaging with the community by commenting on, and discussing other people's posts and comments before trying to get a following with your "original" material. Hubski is an extremely open and curious community that is very receptive to original content from members that have shown a desire to be a part of the discussion. Spamming some weak sauce highschool lunch table screed with no engagement will generally get you less than what I've offered you here.

The spam has been judged.

Next case. :p

factoverfallacy1  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

jadedog cgod First off, let’s define spam.

According to Oxford dictionary: "Irrelevant or inappropriate messages sent on the Internet to a large number of recipients".

___________________________

What should I submit to Hubski?

There are no strict rules for what you can and can't submit to Hubski. However, the best posts contain ideas, information, and perspectives that we haven't encountered before.

Posts of personal content are fine, especially if you have something interesting or creative to share. Feel free to share personal insights and experiences with us. Of course, spamming won't be tolerated.

____________________________

Irrelevant? No, I used to proper tags. Matthew's "judge not" is probably one of the most misused quotes in the bible.

Inappropriate? No, all of my articles are educational, cited and confirm with Hubski's rules.

Did I violate the TOS? NO "There are no strict rules for what you can and can't submit". This would be considered by Hubski a "best post" if not discussed before. Can you link me to a similar discussion?

Can I post what I have written? Yes, "Posts of personal content are fine, especially if you have something interesting or creative to share".

So please tell me how this is spam?

Now your comment, is by definition spam because it provides little value to my post.

@cdog@ FYI, in the future, please use what the bible calls "righteous judgement" before you embarrass yourself even further.

Next please.

To use his own sources to back you up "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out." (Proverbs 18:15) ;).

factoverfallacy1  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

How does that back him up?

Is sharing an educated opinion with sources to back it up not "acquiring knowledge"? Is looking to have an intelligent debate not trying to "seek and share" knowledge?

Since as I posted above, I am in no way violating the TOS, it is not spam. On the contrary, you all are spamming my post.

I will continue to share (Posts of personal content are fine) as I deem fit. If you do not wish to participate with a relevant comment, you may move on.

Devac  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

It's not about terms of service. It's just what cgod said: talk to people. Look around, find interesting things to talk about. Join in on conversations. Sharing is not only acceptable, but encouraged. But this is not a replacement for RSS feed. You create stuff? That's cool. But most people here would also like to know a person behind what he shared.

Perhaps it was presumptuous of us/me, but take a look at #spam content. We have easily hundreds of people, spammers or not, who simply slap a link and don't even try to engage. This is largely not a place for that. Talk about what happened to you recently at Pubski (a weekly thread where we update each other, very informal and not unlike a pub meeting between friends). While, after further consideration, I have to say that you might have got harsher treatment than deserved, it was an honest advice. If you share it for education, I (and probably most people here) don't have a problem with it. If it's like the mentioned hundreds who hope to get traffic it's not a good place for it. On that note, that's a thing despite the fact that whole user-base of Hubski is probably less than most subreddits.

Other than that: chill a bit. You got an advice, even if delivery could have been better, not a slap and attack. Although truth be told, I can sympathise with some level of backlash. No-one likes unexpected critique. If you are one of those people who don't want to initiate talks, you have mine apology and I hope that you will not hold a grudge about staring on a wrong foot. Frankly, the mere fact that you have even checked answers is a good sign. But as, I hope a bit friendlier, advice: majority of people here don't seem as militant on the subject of your blog as you come off.

factoverfallacy1  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

Devac Yes, your comments were very presumptuous and resembled a mob like mentality similar to what I would expect on Reddit. I took such offense that I am writing this using my smartphone. So excuse the edits and grammar. However, I am very forgiving and it was very big of you to admit being a little to rash.

I was shocked by the responses because when was the last time you saw spam:

1. Written in the citation format.

2. Not selling a product

3. Willing to defend and respond promptly to criticism.

4. Blatantly matching my name with the website. I am not hiding anything.

5. Reading my other articles on my website.

5. The biggest flag should have been, when has a "factual based website" ever been a money maker? A picture of cleavage would make more money than I would in a lifetime on my site.

Why do you think this sentence "If it's like the mentioned hundreds who hope to get traffic it's not a good place for it" does not bother me one bit. You will see many more posts and unlike many bloggers, I personally write and respond to almost every comment.

Now I am going to be 100% honest. I will mostly be participating on my own threads. The reason being is I want to have a real educational debate. To do so, I have to be able to respond quickly and with scholarly sources. This takes a lot of time. Just this reply took a bit because I like to be clear and concise.

The ignorance on Reddit is astounding that sometimes, I am doing 100 replies a day (time consuming x100). It mostly goes on deaf ears but if I only educate one person or cause someone to think, I did my job.

Look at my pit bull article on Reddit. I provided over 45 citations and was still called "insert ad hominem". Yet people fail to realize their opinion is N=1 and a citation means I did not come up with the idea. So they are in actuality calling experts wrong with no rebuttal but their bias.

My motto “an educated opinion is fine, a bias is not". I guess I took the educator old adage of "it is not just the answer but how you arrive at it". I can never fault anyone for being wrong when they have an educated argument.

Yes, I can let bygones be bygones and understand why you guys came off so defensive. However, I hope you see I am genuine.

I know people might not be as "militant" as the topic as I am but that is why I joined this site. If they do not like my topic, they can respectfully move on. I will show everyone that same respect.

The internet is riddled with so many stereotypes, propaganda, and illogical opinions, I thought my site and these discussions would provide a valuable contribution. To think I actually miss University because of the citation system.

Devac  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

If that's the case, after taking your post as a whole, I think we'll get along just fine. However, this mob mentality is mainly a result of astonishing amount of situations like the one you just experienced. It did not matter if people here were inviting or not, and you have to believe me on that one, your's was probably one of the harshest I have witnessed here. However, I think you'll know what I mean by saying that it did not come out of nowhere and many a the time it's people who commented were on the shit-receiving side. While it's bias that should be more recognised among regulars, you are more of an exception than the rule. Bias it may be, but I was kinda dreading shit-flinging response to my (I hope) rather friendly and informative post. In a relationship analogy, Hubski has somewhat impressive amount of baggage and it shows.

While it's unlikely that I'll respond in the future, as sociology and social phenomena don't really tickle my fancy, but I wish you best of luck. If you don't mind a tip, try to add some question to the readers in the post body, so that it may trigger desired response. Most of the time it works and shows visible effort. Not implying that it did not took effort in article. I'm talking about post body.

Regarding your points about "when was the last time you saw spam", you might be surprised. Not more than a month ago I've seen a very high-quality website that presented itself as a blog to some pro-bono lawyer gathering that (in advertised premise) was all about showing various cool things surrounding legal system and particular precedent cases. What did I see after looking around? A dietary and sexual enchantment pill store. Shame, since it was one of few sides that were genuinely accessible to someone with my type of colour blindness on top of sounding kinda cool in original premise ;).

factoverfallacy1  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

Devac I guess I have "online pheromones" and attract harshness?

I make very compelling arguments. Maybe I can make it another "tickle topic" for you.

Oh man are you a law aficionado? I am very into constitutional law, intellectual property and finding loopholes.

Tip acknowledged. This article was my "test" article to feel this out. I am glad I started with this as I would have wasted a better one.

Wow, that was an above and beyond spammer.

Now that we are both on the same page, maybe you can help me out with two thing:

1. I don't like the 1 at the end of my name. I deleted a post and somehow my account deleted? My Password did not work and when I attempt to recover, I get a blank page. I can't find any contact info to an admin. Do you know of any?

2. If it is not too much trouble, I would greatly appreciate you following me for a bit. I would hate for this fiasco to happen again. A vet from a veteran would probably nip that in the bud until I get more well known.

cgod  ·  3021 days ago  ·  link  ·

I'm almost as veteran as they come.

If you have a problem with an account message thenewgreen or mk and they will help resolve your issue.

You had engaged in no conversation with the community on the account you posted with, you hadn't shared any other posts. You posted Bible chit chat with a brand new account. Not much interest in clearing up misunderstood Bible passages around here. You look like a kooky spammer.

""prepare to be judged on that act and that act alone.” First impressions are everything."

You are so right.

I ask, what is a guy supposed to do in that position? You figuratively led with your chin. I had no real animosity or malice, it was as much a piece of performance art as anything. The guy says it's cool to judge and looks like a spammy kook? OK, I'll bite.

In the aftermath you just had to go with the "I'm not violating the TOS, so you'll just have to deal with it shtick. Oh...yea...an internet lawyer, that is just about the most petulant and unendearing angle to argue the "value" of what you are bringing to the table. It's almost completely bereft of value, it's the bulk of your initial essay at personal redemption. Dictionary definitions, more garbage engagement. I must be wrong, he pulled out his Rand McNally and beat me over the head with it, and how could I judge so harshly, he used good citations!

You are pleased to have picked this as your test post but I would argue that you might have chosen poorly. A God bothering post picking apart aspects of Scripture shows a lack of attention towards the interests of your audience. A post in support of judging things upon their apparent merit when you don't know your audience seems like folly.

You apparently aren't a spammer, just a person who wants to use Hubski as a blog mirror with no real interest in engaging with the wider community. I just can't welcome you here but like the TOS says, have at it.

I am not embarrassed.

factoverfallacy1  ·  3020 days ago  ·  link  ·

cgod Oh and please correct me if I am wrong but judging from your profile, it appears you only have 42 comments? From the ones I read most are just small talk and banter. In only two weeks on Newsvine, I did 86 educational comments. Reddit over 100.

You want to know why I quote the dictionary? You consider your contribution "original, valuable" and mine drivel!! ahaha

Drivel is defined as silly nonsense.

So let me get this straight. My writing is educational, debunks stereotypes and is cited with numerous sources and you call it drivel? Yet yours.....

"Never seen this many accounts to upvote a spam post before. Hope it's not a sign of things to come."

"cold brew chit chat"

Your opinion: N=1. I think I will continue doing what I do.

P.S I would love to hear how this article was pseudo-philosophy. I am sure the numerous pastors and PhD's that agree with me would love to hear your intellectual rebuttal. But please don't hurt yourself.

cgod  ·  3020 days ago  ·  link  ·

Don't worry, I'm in no danger of hurting myself.

factoverfallacy1  ·  3020 days ago  ·  link  ·

cgodread the comments I wrote to Devac . At least there is one respectful and humble guy here so far.

"prepare to be judged on that act and that act alone.” First impressions are everything."

One of the most respectful thing one can do is honor the rules. I read the TOS and ensured I was complaint. I have had no issues or complaints on similar sites like Newsvine. The bible talks about righteous judgement, yours was a snap one.

"just a person who wants to use Hubski as a blog mirror"

Again, read what I wrote to Devac. Yes, that is my intention. I did not know many of these sites existed before I bought a 3 year web host plan. So I will use it and post. I see nothing wrong with that. Instead of my brain to hubski, it is going one other step (my blog). FYI, Devac already said how this site will provide almost no traffic. Why do you think I am still here?

FYI, I choose to only post on my own threads because of people like you. You create controversy and fail to read previous comments so I must repeat myself. To keep an educational discussion going it is imperative I respond timely and with relevant scholarly sources which takes time.

Here is a snippet of my previous post "Now I am going to be 100% honest. I will mostly be participating on my own threads. The reason being is I want to have a real educational debate. To do so, I have to be able to respond quickly and with scholarly sources. This takes a lot of time. Just this reply took a bit because I like to be clear and concise".

"A post in support of judging things upon their apparent merit when you don't know your audience seems like folly."

You seem to be the only one bothered by it.

"no real interest in engaging with the wider community."

I put a lot of effort in to my writing and I respond to almost every comment on every other board. I and many others would consider that engagement.

"I am not embarrassed"

You should be. You accuse me of spamming (which you just admitted I am not) when you are in fact by definition spamming my post. If you do not like my content move on.

So I am unsure of the reason for your post. If I am not spamming or violating the TOS, your comments are of no use to me. The great part about this site is, you don't have to follow or read my posts if you choose not too.

Devac  ·  3021 days ago  ·  link  ·

Oh man are you a law aficionado? I am very into constitutional law, intellectual property and finding loopholes.

Actually, it's more about it being almost impenetrable while intriguing. Fact that we don't share legal system (I'm Polish) also does not help. Either way, I do like to read about it but language barrier is a thing for me.

At the moment I'm doing a double major in maths and physics (and it takes quite considerable amounts of time), but ancient Roman culture and history also resonate with me. So does music theory/composition (I'm returning to playing piano after a break). As a hint, click people's nicks and read their profile descriptions. Some don't bother to fill them, others do ;).

Tip acknowledged. This article was my "test" article to feel this out. I am glad I started with this as I would have wasted a better one.

Actually, I have another one if you don't mind. Perhaps adding some sort of disclimer similar to one that you gave to me about why are you unlikely to contribute outside of your threads would be a good thing? At worst, it'll likely prevent repeat of the situation from this post.

factoverfallacy1  ·  3022 days ago  ·  link  ·

cgod Well, I am well within my rights to share my material according to the TOS. So get used to it. A discussion in accordance to a TOS is not by definition spam. I write what interests me and would like to have an interesting discussion about said topic. If you don't, please move on.

Second, how is my post anti-religious when it conforms to the biblical doctrine? It appears even a “sophomoric topic” is well above your intellectual capacity and reading comprehension. If you disagree, add something educational.

I guess the "weak sauce" is too much for you to comprehend as Matthew is one of the most highly misinterpreted quote used on the internet.

Oh wait, you must be in that group. Sorry the truth offends you.
