For me it's the commercialization that I regret the most. I worry that one day we will have to log onto the internet with our genuine identities, and that all of our information will be made available to people trying to profit from us. It's quickly headed in that direction, IMO.

I am very tired of being constantly treated as a consumer.

Or, increasingly, the product.

I'm really thankfull that the big shots didn't think about the internet before it took off. Otherwise we would have been stuck in a fragmented telnet kind of system. Also, I don't think that the current commercialization will be sustainable. More and more people have privacy concerns etc.

I don't see a future for logging in with your real identity. It's not cost effective and people will demonstrate even harder than with SOPA, ACTA and PIPA when forced to do that. The beauty of the internet is the possibility to connect with everyone with an connection, anonymously. Take that away and a lot of things will just stop. Reddit, 4chan, possibly Hubski and a lot of other sites.

As for the data logging itself, install ad-blockers, ghostery and noscript for paranoid mode firefox :P
