It's technically Tuesday already, but nobody needs to know
wait wait– a) is this the same quarter bag im thinking of b) is this still about your kid and if not c) how does one play a quarter bag? Also, a quarter bag.
I got into the end game, played through the story lines then went over the TESO. Still think that GW2 did the story behind the world better than just about anyone. They nailed the looting and inventory system, and making your toon level to the zone was something that amazed me, coming from WoW.
Been playing Assassin's Creed: Rogue from the Ubisoft Humble Bundle. Well worth the $15 so far and it is a lot of fun sailing around and taking ships for my self. Also played a bit of the AC Chronicles: China on my laptop and it was pretty good as well; Very reminiscent of Stealth Bastard and Mark of the Ninja. uPlay aside, that bundle is probably one of the better bundles I've seen recently. At the least, Rayman Origins is worth the $1 if you don't mind uPlay. I was also playing quite a bit of Postal 2, but my enthusiasm died out a bit recently. It does have a good, if really twisted and dark, sense of humor. Finally, been a bit on a Portal kick. Sat down and beat Portal in one setting and now am installing Portal Stories: Mel and Thinking with Time Machines mods as well as Blue Portals.
Started Elder Scrolls Online this weekend. I'm playing with a bunch of my friends that I used to play League and other games with. We're planning on starting a guild together, so there should be even more fun to come! It's a ton of fun and totally exceeded my expectations so far. I haven't played an MMO since WoW, so the questing / leveling up process is giving me huge nostalgia. Another thing I appreciate so far is that there seems to be less of a focus on min-maxing your character and more of a focus on developing your own character with your own playstyle. It's fun picking up new abilities as I level up and trying different combinations of skills to see what I can make work together. The game does a really good job at making you feel clever for using different abilities together without being blatantly obvious about the 'best' way to combine them. My character really feels like my own, a really good feeling that's seems strange coming from an MMO where the standard is to have a 'best' build that everyone follows to maximize their stats for their chosen role. It's been a while since I've been this stoked about a game, and I can't wait to see what's in store!
I get a lot of 7-day bans from CS:GO. I will not be playing CS:GO for the next 6 days, 4 hours, and 5 minutes.
Either I forget to keep my laptop charged and csgo refuses to connect again, or I get really into a game and my teammates step in front of my negev :I
I'm going to be selling my PS4 soon, so I've been borrowing games from my little brothers since Destiny took a shit on itself. That game is still really fun, but compared to what it could have been, compared to what it was supposed to be, I can't even look at it anymore. The Mad Max game was fun, and I'm about 20% into Just Cause 3, because grappling hooks and parachutes and fuckhuge Michael Bay like explosions.
I'm taking a break from the shocking amount of hours I've put into the Witcher 3 (haven't been sucked into a game like this in a very long time) to play The Witness. The Witness is a wonderful experience. Every time I complete a puzzle I feel very clever and every time come to a new area I'm delighted in the concepts it presents and the challenges it provides. The way the puzzles interact with or are informed by the environment is really great too. I'm glad I've resisted all temptation to look up hints or solutions. There have been many times now that I've stopped playing for the night completely stuck on a puzzle only to complete it on the first try the next play session without even actively thinking about it. I think that's one of the more interesting aspects of the the game, is enjoying the peculiarities of how our brains would and how we process the environment around us. I've stumbled upon some of the major themes and idea within the game and what it is trying to say as a work and I can appreciate what Jonathan Blow is trying to say. I'm also looking forward to Firewatch, which comes out today!
I actually just treated myself and bought my first games in... 6 months? It's been a long spell where I've not wanted to play anything. I bought LEGO Star Wars, LEGO Jurassic World, and Fallout New Vegas. Enjoying the dinosaurs the most as its probably one of their most polished ones yet, going back and playing the Star Wars ones is very frustrating because the mechanics can be really broken at times and its stuff you know they fixed later. That said, nostalgia is a huge reason I bought the SW games in the first instance, going to 100% it this time!
I love the Lego video games. I have most of them. And I just recently got Lego Dimensions too. It's going to be hard to not buy all the figures available. but it's a great game.
Banished. I recently got Colonial Charter 1.6 and it is amazing how much it adds to the game.
Oh! I was very excited for Banished before it came out but only put a short amount of time into it. I see that Colonial Charter add a massive amount of content to the game. I think I'd like to put some more time into the vanilla version of the game first though. Has it been streamlined and bugfixed at all? I remember the villagers having very strange and erratic behavior at times, especially related to fire.
The banished subreddit has a lot of information on the vanilla game. There is a bug guide there. I'd say check it out if you haven't yet. There are still some bugs but nothing unbearable. I haven't had a fire in a village in a long time so I can't say much about that. I know that if you're not producing enough food or firewood, that can lead to the people boarding that, making the problem worse, and everyone dying. You definitely want to get vanilla down before going into Colonial Charter. If not, you'll be completely lost, and even then, expect to have a village or two to get used to everything. It is an extremely challenging but fun game.
Not so much "playing" as "attempting to exorcise" The Witness. Easily one of the most addictive and interesting puzzle games I've played. On a related note, my computer has been struggling with newer video games, so I've retreated into an older passion of mine: Interactive Fiction games. I could talk about them all day, and I've found some over the past few weeks that have been absolutely phenomonal. Everyone reading this should go play Photopia right now, It is easily one of the best uses of the medium that I have ever encountered.
For the Witness? Not that I've heard. I think they just started work on the iOS port recently, and I haven't heard anything about Android. It's a fairly resource-intensive game, so I don't know if it would end up on a mobile format.
Dirty Bomb is still my main time sink at the moment. I just can't get enough of the fast-paced, objective based game play. Cross that with a good movement system and a variety of character abilities and you get fun times. Though the devs have made some questionable decisions and updates are quite slow. It's very much feels like a few more bad moves could kill the game. I do need to start being more mindful with this game though. It's very easy to get caught up and start tilting, and in turn rage. It's usually only multiplayer shooters that do this to me. I'm actually really ashamed to admit this, but I need to admit it somewhere: I punched my monitor yesterday and broke it. Typing that makes me embarrassed. I was always perplexed by people who told stories of breaking their own property in rage at a game, but now I'm one of them. Fortunately, it was only a cheap hand-me-down, but still it's a bit pathetic. Most people see me as a pretty chill person but when I'm alone I can get pretty mad sometimes. It's something I need to work on. Aside from that caveat, I also need to get back to The Witcher 3. I think I'm near completion and it's up there with one of the best games I've ever played.. I'm also excited to play Firewatch (I think it's out today?), X-COM 2 and The Witness. Has anyone heard anything about No Man's Sky recently? There was a lot of the publicity around that game a few months ago but it seems to have dropped off the radar. It's an intriguing game to say the least.
Nice! It really is a masterpiece. I've never been so engrossed in a game's story and world before. Skyrim had been the most successful in that beforehand. I've spent considerable time debating over which lines of dialogue to choose, which makes the timed choices ever more exhilarating. I've actually been neglecting it recently but think I'm approaching the end of the story, so I need to get back on it. Then there's the expansion(s) to explore. And it's beauty is the icing. It does hold up very well on your old GPU, you have to love CD Projekt Red. It's one of those games where I'm willing to trade off an optimal frame rate for some eye candy. I've got some mods to spice things up too. I usually flutter around 40-60fps with it looking this: It's the only game where I've said I'm not going to fast travel and actually stuck to it. Except for some occasions when you're forced too.
Modding the bejeezus out of an already modded Crusader Kings 2. And Transistor, but I haven't finished it, so no spoilers. Beautiful game though.
I've finally gotten CS:GO on the sale (given that everyone and their mum seems to own it and I just can't pass up an opportunity to play with people), and playing it for about an hour has just reminded how absolutely shit I am at shooters. Jesus Christ. Probably going to drown my tears in finishing Life is Strange, then trying to get to grips with ARK.
Last week I finished Tomb Raider (2013) at 100%, so this week I finally started on Rise of the Tomb Raider. I've liked these games more than I thought I would, I tend to like to some mindless exploring and collecting too. Still playing a lot of Battlefront, Cities Skylines and Titanfall.
It holds up relatively well actually. It's funny, cause it's actually a much more difficult game than I remember. That, or I've lost my edge. It's one of those games where no matter what race you play, you have to rely heavily on tech tree development if you want to do well. All other racial modifiers are really secondary, whether they involve manufacturing, resistance to harsh environments, etc.
