Strange, frankly, that this is news.
I think sometimes in our US vs. THEM political system, the "other" is often demonized to the extreme. I think that when a piece like this gets published - it can serve as a reminder that we're probably a lot more alike than different. All democrats are baby-killing, treehugging, rich-taxing, welfare-dolling, socialists.
All republicans are god-fearing, SUV-driving, tax-cutting, war-mongering, racists.
Except we weren't all the same when Bush was president. Republicans were driving SUVs like it was their duty, cutting taxes for Trumps and Hiltons, and starting racist wars. The delay by Republicans in acknowledging the reality of climate change will probably go unremarked by history. But I haven't flushed it down the memory hole yet.
Strange, too, that the headline uses "believe" rather than "acknowledge."
The article tries to paint a little more optimistic picture, that while vocal extremes care only about the message and not facts, a notable number of people listen to discussion and debate and will change their views to match. That said, it isn't just politics. Vaccines and GMOs are just two examples that also have believers out-shouting those who acknowledge the science.
