I did eventually get to sleep. The movie actually continued to get worse. I have decided to rate it "I," for "insulting (to the female gender - there isn't one female character who isn't a caricature ) and "inane." Maybe also "infuriating." I don't know, I am fine with incredulity. That would reinforce the "I" rating! ;)
this is why i can't do rom coms. I can't do suspension of belief long enough to be like "yeah this could totally happen". I watched "Before Sunrise" and could not fucking understand what was supposed to be romantic about hopping off a train with some random guy you met. NO ONE QUESTIONS IT EITHER. And it was released in 1995 so the whole "romantic" they may never see each other again thing is compounded by the fact that they actually really don't have any way to ever reunite. how is that romantic?? i don't know. that's not really relevant to the point of your post but along the vein of watching movies and not being able to get into them at all because their fundamental premise is 100% flawed
I liked this. As I was reading I could imagine you watching the movie, mouth agape in disbelief of the idiocy you're witnessing. I think if I have some free time this week, I might dive through some of your previous posts. Do you take suggestions for Netflix movies? I've seen a few that were surprisingly good and others that are so predictably crappy that it hurts.
Awesome! I love to share! You don't even have to review any of them if you don't want to, but if you do decide to share, give me a shout out. I'd love to see what you think. I'll make a short list with a small variety of movies. Genuinely good movies that I really enjoyed Frank – A movie about an eccentric musician and a talentless hack who is trying to leach off of him. Inspired by Frank Sidebottom. Our Idiot Brother – A good man, with his heart in the right place, messes up the lives of his three sisters due to his inability to think things through. The One I Love – A couple goes on a retreat to try and work on their marriage and things get very weird, very quick. Edit: Two more genuinely fun ones . . . Drinking Buddies - Relationships are hard. This movie had a pleasant ending though. Safety Not Guaranteed - You know the meme. It's fun, it's easy, it's good. Movies that aren't going to blow you away, but are still enjoyable Man Up – An idiot knocks up his girlfriend. His idiot buddy tries to help him get ready for father hood. I won't lie. It's not going to blow you away, but it's an easy, fun watch. The Details – Yuppies are screw ups. Yup. Movies that are so bad, they're going to make you mad COG – Spoiler: A smug atheist finds God. Shocking premise. I know. David Sedaris and his writing aside, this movie has wooden acting and a wandering plot. What makes it hard to watch is that it often has scenes that seem to just barely misses their mark. Battle Beyond the Stars – Some Sci-Fi in the late '70s and early '80s just didn't hold up. If you want to remember why, watch this.
I watched Our Idiot Brother many moons ago but hardly remember it.
That's actually a trait I like about movies like Our Idiot Brother. They're there to share a story, an experience. They're not trying to leave some profound message or blow you away. As a result, they often come across as simple, pleasant, and comfortable, like a nice cup of hot tea. So while they're not memorable for being amazing, they're memorable for being enjoyable.
