Me too. I can't imagine wanting to live in a suburb, in a house that looks like every other house with a small square plot of land with a deck with a grill and a two car garage with a mini van and a taurus. Give me the city, a neighborhood park, food vendors and mass transit.
Aye, the article reminded me again of this article by Michael Pollan, where he commented on the importance of farmers' markets on social interactions:
I forget where I read it, but I ran across a comment the other day that one of the issues with suburbia is that there is no center, no place for people to congregate.Farmers’ markets are thriving, more than five thousand strong, and there is a lot more going on in them than the exchange of money for food. Someone is collecting signatures on a petition. Someone else is playing music. Children are everywhere, sampling fresh produce, talking to farmers. Friends and acquaintances stop to chat. One sociologist calculated that people have ten times as many conversations at the farmers’ market than they do in the supermarket.

I'm going to write a song about this.
