Hey all,
In case you are new here, we design a new sticker every 6 months or so - whenever we've shipped all our old ones. Someday, the old ones are all going to be worth a LOT of money!
But hey. We aren't here to talk about the old - we want new! Design us a sticker. We prefer it to have equal lengths on both sides as it will be printed on a square 4" x 4" sticker. You can do a border if you would like, like we've done in the past. We also prefer it to have only one color + black OR white. So orange and white is okay. Gray and white is okay. Black and blue is okay. But black and blue and white won't cut it.
Feel free to add more colors once you've done a single color version. I will put any designs that people show interest in, in the redbubble shop so you can buy tshirts, hoodies, onesies, etc.
If the design is badass enough, we are also going to be doing cheap little coozies. Because...fuck yes coozies. Koozies? Coosies? Cooties?
Anyways.... here are some reference materials

Some more inspired by keifermiller and rd95 and whoever else was playing with this.
First of all, this is perhaps the best title of a post ever. Hopefully, it's all inclusive and nobody feels left out via the criteria. Can we agree that the ability to have an idea should be a prerequisite for setting up an account on Hubski? HA! Shout-out to past people with sticker ideas: sounds_sound, veen, eightbitsamurai, notbillgates, elizabeth, ooli, guybrush, mk steve, lil and countless others....etc. I'd like to add that I would be cool with us having our first ever multi-colored sticker too. I know it's more expensive, but perhaps it's time? Also, winner of the contest will get a Hubski t-shirt, courtesy of me. Design away! Below is my favorite ever contribution to sticker-design ideas:
Making "the ability to have an idea" a prerequisite is a slippery slope. Next we'll insist on the ability to formulate a thought, construct an algorithm, communicate with our Martian overlords, whisper to horses. Ideas aren't for everyone. Ideas are dangerous. I think the folks who resist ideafying should also be respected. Can we agree that the ability to have an idea should be a prerequisite for setting up an account on Hubski? HA!
I know you're joking, but in case you are not: No, No, and No.
Too late, I already coded it up. Give me all your ideas or your usernames will vanish. Oh... wait, I can't code. At all. Interesting link.
Oh that's a good call. Honestly, I couldn't make that body work last night and the amputeeski is half a joke. I do like this concept so I'll probably play with it some more. It just.. It's going to take work. I'm not very good and this sort of thing.
Actually, at first glance, this provided a really good idea for one (that is, not that this one isn't good of course. Ahem) The center circle and the bottom dot, along with the amputee's arm in this case, make it look like a light bulb, the other dots being rays of light. I would totally design this for you, but my creative talent is in the building or breaking of computers, not, y'know, actual creation.
i think you could stand to add a filament inside the bulb... it looks a little funnel-y right now
I see an upside down beaker thingy. Like from chemistry? It's called a beaker right? I like this concept a lot.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erlenmeyer_flask
[edit] Clarification - a beaker is (generally) a straight-sided vessel, with a pouring spout on the rim. The more you know!
See but I also see a stand to pee device so...
If pissing off your friends is bad, is pissing on them good?
I agree, but I'll have to leave that to someone else I'm afraid: I'm stuck on a half-wonky laptop with only paint.net, which is why the example I posted isn't very good. It is seriously giving me a headache... the trackpad randomly stops working and the usb mouse keeps double-clicking, let alone the poor screen resolution and lack of software.
it's still a nice example. it just needs fine tuning. been there on the wonky laptops. my dad used to work for Dell and he would insist that he could fix whatever problems came up. which would have been fine if we weren't living 2000 miles apart and it had a penchant for crashing during finals week.
I puttered out around then and couldn't make the body/arm work in any capacity.
Do you think using an ipod it too out of date? Should I go with some vinyl? That's what all the cool people do these days right?
I'm going to change that to another tag and do the people for privacy and music today.
I agree. It just needs a lot more work. Especially from a distance, it says nothing.
So maybe that's what's going on here.Spiral Power is the power of evolution
Looking good! I like that it makes me think of close encounters of the third kind. I would be tempted to make the logo larger horizontally, but it's already stretched (for perspective?) . One thing I've been wondering about, is there any requirement to say hubski.com?
I always put Hubski.com because...well I feel like people should know to go to hubski.com. I don't know. A thoughtful web definitely insinuates it's a website, but some of the other slogans are less obvious. I'd like to come up with a better slogan for on this one but everything I came up with last night seemed too b2bullshit marketing gibberish. I started with elevating your internet experience and it went downhill from there.
this is SO aesthetically pleasing. i love this.
Do you happen to still have a hi res version of this?
I really really love this one. We're (the hubski team) is going to talk on the phone tomorrow and I'll talk with the sticker guy and see how many colors this is and what the price point is per Colo.
I kind of worked with what keifermiller put together, with sounds_sound's new image, plus my idea for white space. I'm not very good at this, but here's a rough idea at least. If someone could get the spacing, alignment, and size of the icon and text all proportional, I'd love to see how a final image would look. Edit: Well shoot. I just re-read about the one color thing. Is there anyone who can make the background the color of the icon, and the icon and text white?
Just to make sure: sounds_sound, are you OK with this use of your flower?
That looks awesome! It's exactly what I had in mind. I wonder if insomniasexx and thenewgreen have seen everything posted here yet. You, kattdjur, and Cedar all posted some cool stuff. I think this is fun. We should do something like this again, even if it's a non-Hubski themed design. Edit: Forgot justin-case, cause his single color one looks damn cool.
Playing off the idea of 'sharing hubski' in addition to zen mode. It is meant to work as a business card. For sharing the site face to face. Or stick it to reach a wider audience. If you guys don't want to go the color printing route, it is monochrome friendly. I lifted the svg path for the lotus flower and the colors from the css. I hope that is ok. ->edit<- Ah, poop. That's what I get for not reading the post in full before jumping to look at the pretty pictures. We prefer it to have equal lengths on both sides as it will be printed on a square 4" x 4" sticker. You can do a border if you would like, like we've done in the past. We also prefer it to have only one color + black OR white. So orange and white is okay. Gray and white is okay. Black and blue is okay. But black and blue and white won't cut it.
mk hasn't had time to update the zen logo me thinks. He has the .svg's but they aren't up yet. It looks like a cog right now. It should be this: It's tricky to make them look good because they are so small. Incidentally, you can see the current zen logo just to the left of the new in the iterations below. It looks better at a larger scale when you click on the image.
Can you email me the svgs? I'm going to optimize for Web with all the other ones so he can maybe finally fix this issue once and for all. insomniasexx at gmail
A different take on the same theme. I like the idea of it, but I wish I had a tablet. ->edit<- Here's a link to a higher resolution version of it with a url at the bottom.
Hahaha hahaha! Best edit ever. But seriously...this is really elegant.I'm a fan of white space.
Thanks. White space is really the only thing I brought to this party. All the hard work was done by sounds_sound, rd95, and Team Hubski. I just took what was already there and put it into a mostly empty svg. And, honestly, I like rd95's layout idea just as much.
Man. That's so clean it's perfect. If I could do one thing, it may be just get rid of some of the extra white space on the top and bottom. Make it a little longer and thinner looking, like a bumper sticker. Edit: On the second image, what if we made both the hub and the text larger, and maybe move the wheel up and left and the text lower, so it fills up a bit more of the white space?
Here's a fun toy I made last year, a fractal hubski logo explorer. I still like to play with it. You might have to click in the window in order to use the keys. Try all the buttons. It's especially cool if you increase satellite ratio so that the circles overlap and turn on some transparency. Be careful with depth - it slows down exponentially.
This could be a pretty shitty idea, but here it goes. I always thought the Hubski logo looks like a crop circle. Would such a thing work well or look good on a sticker? I think it would be a pretty cool/funny thing to do anyway. I don't know anything about image editing but after much MS Paint-ing I managed to put together a crude example. Maybe someone who knows how to edit images could come up with something that looks good!
