Similarly, How Thank You Sounds to Chinese Ears Discussion on that here:
I really need to travel more. I enjoyed reading this, again, Dendrophobe.“Good friends are so close, they are like part of you,” Danny said. “Why would you say please or thank you to yourself? It doesn’t make sense.”
-I liked that. I've never travelled to China. I know that mk has a number of times and steve was just there. steve, did you find that in China, people were more abrupt? Did you find this rubbed off on you?
Travel is tough with littles at home. Someday, my man... regarding the please and thank you thing... I read this and wondered a lot about my experience. People are fairly abrupt, but I'm not enough of an expert on the culture or the language to really weigh in on the subject. I did hear a lot of thank yous though...
I was hoping someone linked this article! I read this and though it was so interesting, and was surprised how much it related to my own mindset. The notion that being polite is actually a buffer, a way of separating yourself from your audience, rang so true to me. I find that being "rude", or "impolite", is actually my way of showing my friends that I am so comfortable around them that pleasantries aren't necessary.
