I haven't seen a lot of mention about Hubski on Reddit recently, I wonder if there's actually a considerable uptick in new users at all.

I'm here because of it. Voat reminds me of 4chan, and 4chan is. . . 4chan. Hubski seems like a much nicer alternative to either of them.

If all of reddit is going to voat, then here is the place to be.

I dislike voat since it's mostly being endorsed by /r/all users, /r/all is usually filled with low quality content that makes my head feel numb.

I call it the total request live problem. When reddit was small it felt like this community, just people talking. But once it got to millions of users what rose to the top was like the stuff you'd see on TRL, tired and unoriginal.

Reddit is only good for its small subreddits. That's the only reason I still have an account there. Though I'm quickly thinking of dropping that altogether too.

I'll probably keep using the site until most of the individual communities have quit camp. The awful problem is that the communities are all going to go in different directions :( I don't want to use reddit AND hubski AND voat AND Aether...

My feelings exactly. Voat got so many mentions in the FPH circles as "the new Reddit" that it's basically become hating fat people, the website. Not exactly a place I'd like to spend my time browsing.

But I also heard of this place, and it seems rather pleasant - and pleasantly small - so here I am!

I agree with your assessment of voat. I tried it and it felt kind of like 4chan. Of course the fact that it was mentioned a lot during the FPH ban didn't help its image. Hell, reddit's started resembling 4chan in some parts for me.

What sold me on Hubski though was its stance on personal content, on top of the general lack of hostility.

Hadn't read that. That is very nice. :)

There was. I was getting new followers multiple times a day when reddit decided hating fat people is probably not nice. Voat is down right now so the horde seems to be jamming F5 at some kids in Switzerland. Hubski was slow earlier but seems fine now.

I feel so guilty coming here in the wake of that whole fat people hate debacle. I just happened to see a thread about reddit alternatives and thought the model here was neat! I didn't even know there was a large subreddit for hating fat people, or that it even got banned, before I saw that thread! I swear!

tacocat  ·  3436 days ago  ·  link  ·

Don't feel guilty. We didn't get a lot of shitty users. I'm not omnipresent or particularly community involved here but I remember thinking you'd been around a while.

syzo  ·  3436 days ago  ·  link  ·

Oh well yeah. I meant since the FPH thing.

I'm not gonna go thread hunting again, but on one of the threads discussing what's going on, someone made a short list of reddit alternatives. Hubski was mentioned and the comment itself already had quite a few votes for only being a few hours old.
