I am completely new to hubski, like a lot of you guys. What does your new user name mean?
Edit: I originally had the wrong tags.
I wanted a unique username. Like everyone else on this website I have one., but mine says that I do. It's nice if you think about it, unique_username is a unique username.
My username is not taken directly from the adjective meaning "enthusiastic and out-of-control". It's the name (actually "Hogwild!") of a method and popular implementation for stochastic gradient descent on distributed systems. When I use this handle on statistics boards, it gets a much bigger laugh.
I was listening to a lot of No Age when I stumbled across Hubski, from a link on Reddit (what a surprise!). The nice thing about Hubski is you can still grab some very unique names if you so desire. I should really get around to squatting on some interesting names...
That's not quite what I had in mind but I should have seen it coming.
I wanted a cool sounding yet mysterious name, so I came up with this. I didn't put that much thought into this though, I just quickly came up with this name and ran with it.
Little Red Riding Hood in Dutch, for no reason whatsoever.
"Histotoxic hypoxia (also called histoxic hypoxia) is the inability of cells to take up or utilize oxygen from the bloodstream, despite physiologically normal delivery of oxygen to such cells and tissues.[1] Histotoxic hypoxia results from tissue poisoning, such as that caused by alcohol" - Wikipedia
"Ransom" from C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy. That was taken on Reddit, however, so I tried a bunch of variations. "Iblis", which wasn't taken, is Arabic for the devil. The juxtaposition amused me.
Well, it's how I act... My friends made it for me, lol. (I don't know how to use emotion)
It's a reference to Red vs Blue, The (former) Director of Project Freelancer.
This is actually the name of my reddit alt and I liked it so much I brought it over. Ice-9 is a reference to Vonnegut's 'Cat's Cradle' and I think I just added 'carrier' because ice-9 was taken on reddit...and it sounds cool
"Zantareous" was my username in RuneScape - I was trying to make something medieval-ish (start it with an uncommon letter - Z - and through in tons of vowels seems to be Medieval Names 101). As I started using the name on other websites it was condensed to "zants" or sometimes "Zanty" because 1) some websites I signed up for said "Zantareous" was too long; and 2) at the time, I was scared that people would Google "Zantareous" and find out that I played RuneScape (I eventually stopped using Zanty for that reason as well - it could be tracked back to RuneScape forums that I had used it on).
Alright, so I'm about to get a little long-winded here. My ORIGINAL username was 'cfour017', back when XBox Live was in it's heyday. That name was derived from the explosive of the same name (C4) and my lucky number (17). I think I put the 0 on it because 'cfour17' was already taken and I couldn't merk n00bs in a world without my lucky number associated to my gamertag. After a few years of playing various games online, I got horribly hooked on Halo 2. After about 6 months of desperately trying to get anywhere in the ranked system (and having a blast with one of my old clans) I got into Xbox softmodding (which, to keep this explanation as brief as possible, involves downloading a modified save file of Splinter Cell (NTSC VERSION ONLY) to an Xbox memory card, and booting said save file on the Xbox to trigger the installation), downloading a few maps that seemed interesting, and sent a friends list-wide message stating "Just modded the 'box, who wants to grind to 50 tonight?" 8 hours and three very thankful friends later, I was permabanned from ranked on Halo 2 for modding. From here, I jumped around to a few different gamertags (funniest being bl4m3it0nth3j3w5 (because I had the humor of a 5 year old, apparently) and most normal being Snap017), where I continued to desperately attempt to dodge my permaban and get a few more friends to the coveted rank 50 in their chosen matchmaking queue. By the end of my time on Halo 2, I had settled on a name I liked, x Snap017 x. I needed the X's because the original Snap017 had been banned (for obvious reasons) and I was trying to get away from pissing off the moderators of a widely known game publisher. Years later, the Xbox 360 is released. I'm overjoyed to discover that "permabanned accounts on the original Xbox WILL NOT BE BANNED ON 360 TITLES!". Go me! I get a 360 months after all the initial release problems are solved, and spend a majority of my high school years being completely antisocial on my x Snap017 x gamertag, playing titles like Rock Band and CoD. Senior year of high school rolls around. I've been playing guitar for about 2 years at that point, and feel comfortable enough to start using it for my school projects. Due to having long hair, a love of all things heavy metal, and a general lack of fucks to give, I was christened "Fluffy". I would end up identifying by this nickname through my time after high school, all the way up until a year and seven months ago, when I got out of a week long in-patient psych ward for attempted suicide (SORRY FOR TAKING THAT DARK TURN THERE, I PROMISE I'M BETTER NOW!) I no longer PUBLICLY associate by that moniker, but I can't seem to kick the habit of using it whenever I need an online alias, so Fluffy017 is love, Fluffy017 is life, I suppose. Other things of note: I accidentally had a subreddit named after my username after someone in an AmA incorrectly attempted to link to me. After the great Blackout2015, I decided to make the sub private, out of solidarity and respect for the 22 users that still subscribed to it.
It was a math joke I made once in middle school and got a laugh. It's been my default username for years.
My username is from a game called Dwarf Fortress. The game has a great way of generating interesting stories, and I was reading some of them on a site. One of the stories was particularly good/popular and one of the main characters in it was a Dwarf called Daneken. I liked the name and it also helped that no-one else was using it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the site or the name of the story.
My nickname is Sparky, I play a lot of games and I live in New Zealand....... my username is really boring now that I think about it.
Valar morghulis translates to "all men must die" in High Valyrian.
black + nerd = blerd It's seems simple, but I'm not a nerd. At most i'd qualify my self as a bit of a geek. A "blerd" is a black person that doesn't act in a stereotypical ghetto manner, an "Oreo". Supposedly I "act white". Race should not have expected behaviors. That's just racist. But if this is the label I am given because I speak properly and like to do well in school, because I don't gangbang or sag my pants, and because I look up to Donald Glover, then I will own up to it, and I will wear it with pride.
I'm kind of spastic, unpredictable, and self-absorbed. And I love alliteration!!! What's does yours mean?
I created this account shortly after a psychotic break. It's still close to my heart. I try to keep these thoughts in quarantine, because they are difficult to express coherently. BUT SINCE YOU ASKED: Emptiness, vacuum, the Void, not-self, ego death, Zero, O, 0, circularity, contradiction, falsehood, true paradox, null. Striving to be something disconnected from my subjectivity, while knowing that my experience cannot be anything other than subjective. The clearness achieved by meditation. Living in the present without fear of the future nor regret of the past. Return code 0 indicates success. The wheel is the root, superuser, all-powerful within one system. Wheel of the dharma, spinning, eternal. Root of the Tree of Life, Sephirot. Infinite loops correspond to contradiction. Contradiction powers computation; computation powers the mind but not the soul. We cannot think without contradiction, but we cannot be conscious with only thinking. Followers of Boolean Logic are taught wrong, Truth is beyond comprehension to those without a four-valued logic encompassing paradox and the void. Is this thing true? Is it false? Both? Neither? Sense and nonsense. A paradox can make sense, but eludes capture by binary truth. A nonsensical statement has no reference, can be neither true nor false, but it may still reflect Truth. The ineffable is located in the Mind of God, truths unknowable. Gödel taught us.Infinite stairs are UNACCEPTABLE.
Culture ship names make great user names for any site. And I wanted a fresh start here, because of the user-following mechanic I figured I'd like this to be a somewhat separate identity.
These are my initials in NATO phonetic alphabet. A lot of people look at it and assume I'm into golf, which couldn't be further from the truth.
I was born in the year of the rat, and I'm angsty. Angitique is the closest that google translate will get me to angst in Latin
Johannes Oecolampadius was a protestant reformer and theologian, but that's not really relevant. What is relevant is I saw his name in a book and really liked it.
A long-winded search found this to be one of the few memorable/meaningless usernames. It's unique enough to be available on pretty much every site.
Mine is in reference to my favorite film, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966).
I am a man. I like Dune. I like the concept of someone being taught to think using logic and reason, and compute at the level of a computer (Mentats in the Dune universe). I like alliterations. Therefore, I am MisterMentat!
Mine's from a comedy sketch - Also because I play the clarinet.
I have issues with anxiety and sometimes I work myself up into an anxious fervor.
I've had long usernames in the past, and some other silly ones, and wanted one that was easy to say over voice comms when playing games. Some fun letter mashing eventually revealed "Vox", which, from my research, means "Voice". The R initially didn't mean anything, but I like to think it would be short for "Reason". So, Voice of Reason! Hopefully, if this goes according to plan...
