You can't call that an interview. Blitzer just seems like he's on autopilot, not even thinking about what he's saying, just mindlessly trying to get this guy to agree with the CNN approved narrative.

It's so staged and focused on saying that property damage is bad it makes you wonder how the CNN news system works. Is Wolf literally briefed, "make sure you make him say that he does not condone the rioting"

onlythelonly  ·  3495 days ago  ·  link  ·

Exactly! And it was like he wass so used to it, like all he's really become proficient at after all these years is getting people to create approved soundbites. You can tell the producer was pushing him to pursue the line of questioning (if you can call it that). CNN knows they can shape the national perspective and the conglomerate they're apart of certainly has their own agenda.

But if this is the way it is you would have to think that CNN is immoral. Not immoral by accident but immoral on purpose.

I have feeling its like NSA or other less than moral institutions. As an individual you don't realize that you are participating in something immoral but the structure is set up and controlled to produce this effect.

Oh absolutely. 100%

I'm not picking on you by specifically replying here, I just want to say that a common theme I see on hubski is belittling various members of the "news media." And I really have to wonder why you guys watch that stuff at all. I don't get it. Surely it can't just be a case of "know what the enemy/man/establishment is thinking" -- we all know that without trying.

Until thirty seconds ago I did not even know what Wolf Blitzer looked like, and I'm more in touch than 99.9% of the population. It's easy to weed out the chaff.

[I think this is tangentially worth linking: https://hubski.com/pub?id=216700]

I throw a snob flag on this play. Any sentence that begins "I did not even know" should not be expressed as a point of pride. Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto would be a good motto if not for the unfortunate false friends.

Mainstream media is a fair target for derision, and bottom-feeding can serve as dessert for the weary brain. A little sorbet. It's on the viewer if they neglect to include better sources of information in their diet.

I don't watch CNN either, unless I'm in the cafeteria and forgot my book. But now I want to tune in to see Don Lemon.

Dealing in absolutes! There are good reasons to know who Blitzer is (a couple of which tng listed) and bad (watching CNN daily). They rank as follows: bad < no knowledge < good.

Perhaps this ties into the conversation in which galen currently owes me a reply: walking away from conflict to diffuse it. Some may prefer to watch the occasional piece of mainstream media so they can mock it. I do not; I prefer to pretend it doesn't exist to the extent possible (just like with conflict).

Like how I watch Judge Judy when I'm sick at home

galen  ·  3496 days ago  ·  link  ·

So you do understand why I watch friends when I'm sick at home.

user-inactivated  ·  3496 days ago  ·  link  ·

lol, no.

if I felt like watching a bunch of white people have wacky misadventures that I have zero interest in whatsoever, I'd just look out my window, bruh.

And since we're on it, ALSO APPLIES TO:

Game of Thrones

The Walking Dead for killing off every single fucking black character.

The old Avengers. (The new ones are looking pretty good diversity wise)

Mad Men

Downtown Abbey (ESPECIALLY Downtown Abbey)

How I Met Your Mother

One more point regarding Friends - how the hell do they afford that apartment? They don't do shit!

galen  ·  3495 days ago  ·  link  ·

So I told one of my meatspace friends about this comment because it's funny and he says you should watch The Boondocks. So. I feel like you've probably already seen it but there you are.

"how the hell do they afford that apartment? They don't do shit!"

I believe the apartment belonged to one of their grandmothers and had some wicked rent control..she died and they pretended she was still alive, yay!

galen  ·  3496 days ago  ·  link  ·

I don't get it, isn't Judge Judy just a bunch of white people talking about having had wacky misadventures?

(Disclaimer: I have never seen Judge Judy.)

user-inactivated  ·  3496 days ago  ·  link  ·

Nah, bruh, it's just trashy reality TV, TOTALLY different.

The difference is that Judge Judy doesn't even pretend to be good. It just sucks, I don't even have to think about it.

In turn, I dunno why you watch Friends, it sucks

thenewgreen  ·  3497 days ago  ·  link  ·

I know you're not picking on "me," but you did reply directly to my comment.

You have some major assumptions here.

1. I didn't watch popular media, I watched a minimum wage post that was shared by cgod, two hubskiers whom I respect. I haven't had cable for over 6 years now and never seek out CNN etc.

2. I'm 37 years old, Wolf Blitzer isn't some new face in journalism. He was an oft seen part of media long before aggregators and other options for news consumption were so easily come by. If you only had cable news as a young man, you would have watched cable news. You not knowing what he looks like is a product of your choices. That said, I know you watch debates as I think I've discussed them wit you in the past. Wolf has moderated them for CNN. -He is an ass-clown, for sure, but he's a difficult ass-clown to have never seen if you're interested in knowing about the candidates for the presidency.

b_b  ·  3496 days ago  ·  link  ·

Wolf is an easy target, indeed.

Edit: Fuck, I just saw you linked that elsewhere. Too obvious, I guess. Oh well, I won't delete to save some people the click through.

I only found the interview because I follow Deray on Twitter
