Points for you. Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman/Michele Gondry are a triumvirate of shit in my book. Combine that with the fact that one of my wife's worst colleagues is a hanger-on who lives in Lance Acord's guest house and that whole universe has been lumped into "irritants to avoid." The fact that I have two cinematographer buddies who masturbate over all of the above with dreary regularity does not help.
No points just discussion! I mean I get where your coming from, but Spike Jonze, in my mind is mostly some kid with a camera and a few ideas. He's not cynical in my mind (unlike Kaufman) he just wants to play with weird toys. Maybe I just get too attached to things when nostalgia is involved. I dunno.
Yeah, he just wants to play with weird toys. But I know those guys, too. The point of the weird toys is to present a compelling narrative to the audience. The "Weapon of Choice" video is awesome, but primarily because it's Christopher Walken tapdancing. Okay, great. But aside from Christopher Walken tapdancing, what are you really bringing to the narrative?
Not even Adaptation? Actually, from what you're saying, definitely not Adaptation.
