YEAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!
I feel bad bragging on Facebook so I must brag to the 'Ski.
I'm insanely lucky to get into this program, I'll be doing 3 brief workshops over just 10 days at West Point Military Academy– Physics, "Leadership and Ethics," and Economics– with the guarantee that roughly 50% of candidates that attended this program will be admitted to West Point.
With a 15% admission rate on this thing I'm insanely lucky, and it's a big step for me to achieving an admission to West Point, which is a crazy reach in the first place.
Good luck to everyone on whatever endeavors they're shooting for, waiting on, or dreaming about. I wish the best of e-mails to all.
Edit: Hahaha. Who am I kidding. I'm bragging on Facebook too.
Edit2: Change that silly tag!
No, you worked hard, and are being rewarded. Good job... you've earned it. :)I'm insanely lucky
Nah, there's still some luck involved. It's just that hard work and ambition are enablers of luck. Not to take anything away, it's a great achievement. I just don't believe in things being given solely because of hard work.
Agreed. In any case there's something to be said for remaining humble anyway. Whether you won the lottery or a game of chess there are a million factors going into the result, in addition to just the ones you contribute.
"Half of everything is luck, James." Actually, I generally tend to agree with you and Sean Bean, but I just can't seem to quantify luck. It's a tricky booger. Edit: bugger? Wow, I'm pretty American.
Goddamn I knew great lines for luck but not for skill. Quotesporn thread went up too early.Skill is dwelling in the right place as long as possible.
It's actually a distillation of a conversation I had with a girl that I never got around to sleeping with (you know, that kind of relationship). We were talking about friends of hers and how they were having hard times and I said they were unlucky. She said, and I'm paraphrasing,No, they just suck at life. I think luck is the preparedness to handle little opportunities and little setbacks without blowing up your life. I mean, he lost his job because he was late to work too many times because his car never worked because he always spent his money on booze and nintendo games. That's no unlucky, that's being lame. Sometimes bad things happen but I think "lucky" people are the ones that have the strength and skill to roll with the punches and catch the opportunities when they come by.
That's true, but his death is always at least half honorable, 8bit. And you can quote me on that.
I've got a long way to go, and it's a small step. But thank you, I appreciate it :)
Thank you brutha! You're my inspiration now ;D success follows success.
Thank you! Arguments about that decision have come up many times here, but military service is one of those rare things that can be difficult to evaluate if you haven't experienced it.
I know we had words over your choices before, but I do want to say that I sincerely hope you get the best possible outcomes from your experiences, and I think it's fantastic that your efforts are getting you where you want to be. You're a talented, intelligent and driven young man and there's a lot waiting for you in the future, so hopefully this is just the first step of many.
Ay, the man himself! I thought I'd been missing you around Hubski recently.
and we've got the older-ski's to thank for it! :))
Nice! I have a friend who went to West Point. They kicked him out for smoking pot. So my only advice is, don't do that. :) Congratulations, that is a huge accomplishment.
Oh no D: I've heard stories of that happening before. I'm sure many get away with it, you just never know when it's not your lucky day. If this works out I think I'll be putting all that behind me for sure.
Judgement is skewed when you're neck-deep in Taco Bell with a bong in your hand. I'd love to not enjoy pot.
Don't know what kind of environment you're in now but a lifestyle where you're surrounded by a ton of people who don't smoke pot really helps one not smoke pot, esp. compared to a lifestyle where all or a significant proportion of your friends smoke pot. Like, if it's hard to get and no one's doing it, kind of way more hassle way less fun. I'd also recommend that if you willingly put yourself in a situation where you're told Not to Do A Thing, try to go on and Not Do That Thing. It's not like they'll have tripped it on ya by surprise, or like you're involved in the program because of anything but your own desire to be. I'm sure I break this rule or have in the past, but it is a good thing to keep in mind regardless.
Haha, wow, I didn't even notice that. I just looked through some correspondences and yes, indeed they do. Have I been brainwashed? :D
probably. I wouldn't worry about it though, could be worse. Yvan Eht Nioj
