Historically it has been a very accurate assessment, but as we shift away from fixed gender roles it doesn't seem to be as effective anymore.
I can agree with that. Us versus them mentality is very ingrained though, so getting rid of it won't be easy.
Well absolutely. In my own mind, I'm looking for times when I go binary. Going binary is not quite the same as going postal, but
when I become binary due not to the world but to the limitations of language when I become binary in a richly textured and wildly random universe when I become binary because Western culture's holy books begin with a separation of light and darkness, heavens and earth, and a culture of separation... I know there's been a disturbance in the force. I've been thinking for some time of writing a screed called: How Do You Know When You've Gone Binary and When is It Okay or even a Good Idea? Binary thinking does wondrous things in science, but also is one cause of genocide.
