So what sorts of things could people hypothetically do with this? Anything more interesting than the complete destruction the nasa infrastructure?

I think it has less to do with potential damage done than with theft of IP and R&D that could benefit other nation states by cutting years off of development, and allowing them to develop against our systems currently in development. The sheer number of Chinese ip addresses that have been continuously found behind high level hacks all but closes the door on it being anything other than a state run project. Of course, we are doing it to and we've probably been caught. We probably just don't hear about it because Chinese state media would likely not report that. Stuxnet in Iran was an example of a weaponized breach that was discovered. Hat was probably us or the Israelis or both.

- He said that the motivation of the hackers ranged from "individuals testing their skill to break into Nasa systems, to well-organized criminal enterprises hacking for profit, to intrusions that may have been sponsored by foreign intelligence services".
