I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to write comments in response to my op-ed in the New York Times on February 8th. I read them all (yes, really) and, not only were there many thoughtful and constructive comments, but the totality provided a diverse array of opinions that were interesting to consider and understand.
Of course, there are some who insist on arguing that existing copyright law has become overbearing. But how can the laws be overbearing when they are utterly incapable of responding to offshore pirate sites that even SOPA/PROTECT IP opponents acknowledge are a problem?
Because they are not exclusive. You can have over-bearing copyright law and offshore piracy. Sherman might be less surprised if he realized that his opposition doesn't think the RIAA is operating in good faith.

Let this be a lesson for everyone not to clean their keyboards with an active window.
i started to read this article on an iphone, but the constant reappearance of the entirely-too-large (3 lines tall!?) "c 2012 RIAA" in bright blue at the bottom of the screen was so distractingly obnoxious, i finally was forced to copy-paste the whole thing into a easier to read text file. it wasnt until then that i was able to enjoy the article.

Now I feel doubly bad. I felt dirty linking directly to riaa.com in the first place.

now now, its not your fault that they forced me to pirate their article. seriously though, blocking content with a giant reappearing copyright notice? they may as well have embedded a recording of "MINE! MINE! MINE!" to loop for the duration of the article.
