everything yucky is best dealt with according to the definitions of yucky and not yucky as decided upon by the community. things categorised as yucky need only to be described as such, and require no explanation. logical arguments, while inherently yucky, are often turned about to support illogical points e.g. the theory of evolution is only a "theory", not fact.

tldr: to them, it IS scientific fact. theres just a semantic problem. this problem will not likely be resolved.

i am exactly the same on or off; the online problem is reading sarcasm. the offline problem is reading deadpan. sigh. i am considered difficult both on and offline, and its your fault.

i dont remember, but i have seen video footage of me, at 2, dancing to this:

i still love it to this day. then my older cousin bought me kiss records, and my dad started collecting hip hop that his students at school were talking about. i knew the kiss discography as well as everything new by run dmc, doug e fresh, the fat boys, etc by age 5.

all that said, i like doug e fresh 'the show' as my first love.

yes! and this is not well known in the US, but its great! dj set though...

iamfight  ·  4165 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Great "listen straight through" albums

its been a while.. the NO DANCE thing: DJs create sets that set a mood over a period of time... most rock/pop/rap/etc albums are a collection of individual songs, set in an order to best fit that same kind of mood swing. if you wanna go way back, opera does the same; modern music is often short attention span. sometimes, though, artists create an "album" and not just a collection of 12 random songs. i was looking for the album ones.

division bell? im gritting my teeth...

i was the broke guy in college washing his socks with bar soap in the shower. that being said, Im fairly sure I purchased 90% of my college textbooks (and my kindbud) from basketball/football players who had the uncanny ability to walk into bookstores, get books at no cost without stealing, and then sell them to me for a fraction of the cost. i know that SOMEONE, including myself, is paying for these books, but given the current system, I wouldn't have had them if it weren't for college athletics.

nice. now my arrest record, alcoholism, childish tendencies, bad hair piece, and dragon-slaying can all be blamed on palahniuk, pollack, seinfeld, warhol, weiss and hickman.

in the clear. hah! all the constructive stuff I did on my own, though.

off-topic-ish, but i think thats obamas greatest achievement AND failure. across the board world wide respect except between appalacia and the rockies, a relatively large area that does, for better or worse, fall under his lead.

hah. if the "leader of the free world" was chosen by all people under that umbrella, the repubs would shrivel up faster than the banannas i keep mistakenly storing out of direct view.

iamfight  ·  4613 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Maryland bans employers from asking for employee social media passwords
prediction: legislation such as this will attract the attention of the press worldwide, doing MORE damage to the American image as people continue to wonder "what sort of place is America, that this was necessary?" except in England. from what I understand, they'll probably reject similar laws in-between hedgehog kicking bans and "video cameras every three meters held by on-duty traffic wardens" funding. edit for derp

i think youre mixing up your (and for that matter, my) image of "what it should be" with his arguably accutate observations of "what it is". the article was obviously biased, but its description and criticism of the google model, which unfortunately seems to be the standard lately, was relatively accurate; ads on webpages are obnoxious to a fault, and it wasnt always like that. you have to admit, its a valid observation. and cmon, dont mix my quotes with his in the reply...thats just...misleading?

ive had an endless number of questions every time ive seen that picture on the tubes. until just now, though, ive never noticed the pie nor have i wondered why a pie was being so awkwardly touched... those masks! too distracting... seriously though, that pose is unnatural enough that someone, at some point, said to that kid,"now, touch the pie. just touch the pie. touch it!"
iamfight  ·  4640 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: John R. MacArthur: Internet con men ravage publishing
hah. he basically said that a tastefully done full-page advert opposite an article in newsweek, etc, would be more likely to draw a positive/favorable response than a banner-ad, a pop up ad, or even an animated flashing banner pop up.

frankly, i agree with him. and just in case youre still skeptical: why does adblock exist, if not to bypass the obnoxiousness of the google model?

that being said, i agree with your "go directly to the consumer" point. thats a newish idea that has worked out well on several fronts, but requires a certain amount of several other factors to work successfully... the standard seems to be google ads, and i agree that print ads were much less obnoxious, and therefore much more likely to get done whatever the advertisers had in mind.

and finally, i hate ads. on tv, in mags/comics, before movies, and anywhere else; but the google model (much like the billboard) has out-shouted any interest i could have possibly had in any product, to the point where i specifically AVOID said products.

edit just for fun: my favorite part was "inability to hide derision", followed by the rest of your point. heh.

ok ok ok must not play magic. whew. as i said, just chess, go, and (lately) skyrim for me.
iamfight  ·  4642 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Ask Hubski: What have you sold or given up that you wished you hadn't
sorry, great momories. i got a lich in ante once against a dude that swore his assassin/icy deck was the end. millstone/howling mine! woohoo! i also once played against a guy who threw his meteor when a fan was blowing across the table... good times wow, thanks for awakening the memories!
iamfight  ·  4642 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Ask Hubski: What have you sold or given up that you wished you hadn't
do you remember "the deck"? 60 cards, only two of which dealt damage, one serra angel and one fireball timetwisted/regrowthed repeatedly? the last tournament i won was in north new jersey, i cant remember the name of the town..new carrollton? a necropotence deck. my final hand was swamp, 3x dark ritual, necro, hyppy, 2 knights, and contagion.

lately, i just have to enjoy reading all the cards in the decks i get lent to play against my friends new decks.

i myself am much happier in skyrim.

edit: i would me totally into those closed deck games. anyone in tokyo/yokohama wanna play?

iamfight  ·  4642 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Ask Hubski: What have you sold or given up that you wished you hadn't

newman got injured on that rickshaw, as i remember, and then kramer ran away. whether or not the ride included wifi access was left for the audience to decide.

iamfight  ·  4642 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Homeless People Turned Into WiFi Hotspots at SXSW
this is... this is something.. "look how trendy/giving we are! strap an antenna on a homeless guy, give him a sammich, tweet about your generosity lvl 100!" even kramer and newman gave them a rickshaw to pull, which would be more useful than the connection on the street that your iphone already provides you... which reminds me; i have a load of lobster shells and chicken skins to drop off at the soup kitchen. cmon people, we can do better than this..

edit: please tell me the headline "homeless people turned into wifi hotspots for sxsw" was tongue-in-cheek criticism..
