I'll save y'all the time: there's absolutely no real evidence in this article aside from 1. "no one has caught Banksy yet" and 2. "everyone thinks Banksy is a man" 3. "therefore Banksy is a woman" I will say that this is an excellent couple of sentences: And that I am certainly open to the possibility that Banksy is a woman; this article just didn't add anything to that belief. Yes, Banksy is the smartest, most self-aware street artist in history. No, that does not mean because all other street artists, who are less smart, were men, that Banksy is a woman. The article gets more ridiculous the more I think about it.Andrew Russeth, at the time the editor for Gallerist, the New York Observer's art site, finds Banksy's work lacking in the Banksy Does New York documentary, calling it "art that hits you over the head with its message" and "worst-common-denominator art"—although he had kinder things to say about Sirens of the Lambs, a truck filled with squeaking plush animals.
I just read this and I definitely agree. Could Banksy be a woman? Yes. Did this article do anything to provide actual evidence that Banksy is a woman? No. Is Banksy a bad-ass regardless of gender? Yes.
Whether Banksy is a woman or a man, this writer doesn't seem to have a clue: Wtf? Has he looked at any street art, or is he mistaking a gang sign on an overpass as street art? Other passages also seem to conflate tagging with street murals. It's hard to give any theories credit when the source seems like it isn't credible. UNRELATED BIT: Are you still in OK? If so, check out Welcome to Happiness at the deadCENTER Film Festival. It's playing June 13 and 14 in the early evening.Girls and women figure into Banksy's stenciled figures, for starters, something that isn't true of 99 percent of street art.

look at you shilling that film like a pro. You missed your calling as a promoter.
Street art is probably/maybe the most progressive form of art, inre: gender, inclusivity, all sorts of things. Yeah. -- Damn! I won't be in June. Does somewhere list all its screenings in advance? I bet I can catch it in Austin. PS: unforeseen difficulties in procuring the various volumes of Gulag Archipelago. Will mail soon, potentially just the first volume because it's 700 pages which is enough to be getting on with I think.
There was a long and disappointing saga of this movie not getting accepted to SXSW this year, as it looked like a good candidate then was rejected at the 11th hour. I don't know what the further prospects are for a later screening in Austin. For now, there are only a few festivals lined up, with supposedly more in the pipeline. I can only hope that not getting into SXSW didn't cost us boku bucks.
Like a car accident, I had to look. I skimmed tbh. I am fascinated by Banksy. It's literally amazing that in this day and age he/she is able to pull off this anonymity.
