My review of Gone Girl - quote: "Fincher is so good at creating a claustrophobic world where tension and humor come from familiarity and contempt. I adored The Social Network and Fight Club, and Gone Girl nearly approaches the dizzying fever dreams those films crisply achieved. Alas, the film (and Pike) are burdened with a third act that veers away from the Hitchockian to the Verhoeven-ian." Read the rest at the link...

I've never walked out on a movie before. Boring. Mindnumbingly predictable. All the characters have the likability of a flaming bag of poop. Bloody awful. Edit: I really can't get over how shitty this movie is. Had to go back and finish it or leave my GF behind. Almost three hours of the most ridiculous rehashed crap Hitchcock and everybody else has already pummeled into the ground. The ending? To paraphrase Johnny Carson, "That was a long way for a little bit." Movie was so bad I'm on my second glass of Jameson trying to cleanse my brain.
Just got done seeing this movie for the first time and I have to agree with you Cam, there's not a single likable character which isn't necessarily a bad thing (have you seen Glengarry Glen Ross), but to me Gone Girl was a very flat film for a Fincher film. Visually he still accomplishes what he usually does via mise-en-scene and in particular the viewing angles he uses, but outside of that the film was not visually appealing to me. It was easy to get bored and tired of the settings. Then there's the story and dialogue, both of which I found to be really sub-par. All the scenes where Nick and Amy interacted were hard to sit through, the script seemed so ham-fisted and in your face with "these people are bad and crazy" that it took me out of the film.
