Turn out, hubski. Who's seeing whom? Astro isn't coming anywhere near me, but I may catch Interpol. They've been pricy in the past.
Fucking pissed at Astro, actually, because with Transit and Sarah Jaffe that's the show of the year for sure.
I'd like to see the New Pornographers on Nov 23rd. They're playing 5 minutes from my house. Not on the list, but I'll be seeing my favorite band next month, Wilco, in Raleigh. Our neighbors bought us tickets.
I saw Neko Case at the Solid Sound festival last year and thought it alright, wasn't terribly moved by or excited by it but I love TNP. It sounds like you've seen them a number of times. What should I expect?
The energy level is slowly decreasing, so I'm not expecting too much, honestly. If you love their music like I do, then just having them play live is sublime. If, however, you're looking for an ass-kicker of a show, you can probably do better elsewhere. At the last show, Dan Bejar would just wander on and off the stage with a bottle of whiskey. He seemed to hit his queues, but it irked me a little that he could not be bothered to hang out on stage when he was not singing. Counterpoint to my eeyore-prophecy: this does kick ass. That's eight talented mo-fos musicking all over your face. And they get at least one extra point for Neko Case.
There's nothing here that I know about or am interested in. That being said, I'm pissed that I missed Andre 3stacks, I might go to Tycho, and after that I'll probably boycott concerts until Daft Punk comes back to CO. The only person that hurts is me, but Daft Punk is already hurting me. :'( Boycott will be lifted if Run the Jewels comes by.
None. I am seeing none of these shows because I have a lot of shows planned and the closest any of these tours will be is four hours away each way :(. Not worth it to me. Would love to catch Astro again, The New Pornographers, or Slowdive though. BrainBurner you seeing any of these?
None either. Albany seems to far more off the beaten path than Buffalo, which I would have found hard to believe before I moved here. I am going to this show this weekend which should be awesome, but besides that I got nothing on the horizon.
There are some tours that still come through here that don't go other places, but otherwise I agree with you as a generality. There have been 3 venues that have shut down here over the past 3 years. It's sad. Don't know how you feel about Coheed and Cambria, but they're streaming their concert on Yahoo for some reason. I adore their first three albums.
I think out of this entire list, I've heard of maybe four groups? I get the impression that a lot of these are newer/pop/rap/somethingelseIdon'tlistento. Seems like every time I see a post about music here, I've either never heard of, or don't enjoy, the subject. I'm going to see the Black Keys in December, however.
Who have you heard of? There's always common ground. I've seen the Black Keys twice; I just don't bother posting about them because it's a foregone conclusion that 90 percent of hubski has heard of them. If you dig the Black Keys can I suggest Reignwolf?Seems like every time I see a post about music here, I've either never heard of, or don't enjoy, the subject.
AH HA HA nowaypablo someone else on Hubski has listened to Reignwolf! flag did you know pabst and I went and saw reignwolf? Can't remember if you were a part of that discussion. Mainly because I had never heard of Reignwolf
I've heard of Foo Fighters (I've even listened to them!), Lorde (never heard her stuff), PandaBear (only because of RAM). I'm very picky with music, and I tend to listen to things over and over and over again until I've got it memorized, then I move on to whatever I've found next. For instance, on my last.fm, The Black Keys have around 3,000 plays - the nearest after that is Daft Punk with around 1500 (ignore Falco, I used "Rock Me, Amadeus" to test audio equipment at work).
Its similar for me too. I have rarely heard about the bands that are posted here, and most of them don't really fit into the music I have been enjoying lately, but sometime it is refreshing and I find something I like :) From this list I have only heard of Lorde, The new pornographers (somebody posted a Neko Case track with them), SBTRKT, Flying Lotus and Foo Fighters Merchandise, FKA Twigs, TNP, Caribou and Johnny Marr are passing in Cologne, so I might check them out... Any suggestion which on those I should definitely check out? @flagmuffin@
FKA twigs is great, but I can't vouch for them live. I used to be obsessed with "swim"-era Caribou and they were amazing live when I saw them.
