Haaaaahahahaha
Yes yes. It's also worth observing the bill in question was not a "let's cut ALS funding" bill, it was an overarching budget reduction bill. So, both the Democrats and Republicans voting for it weren't voting against ALS research, they were prioritizing austerity over public health funding. Which is an entirely different matter. But not nearly so provocative.
I'm sitting in a restaurant and the table next to me is having a heated debate as to whether or not to use icebucketing to help their charitable organization. #badidea
I'm all for the funding of research about the ailment du jour, but this just seems like a wildly popular chain letter in video/social media form. I bet some marketers were watching those stupid "ice-cream coning" videos from McDonalds and thinking, we gotta get in on this! People love uploading videos of themselves doing wacky things! I wonder what organization will use this phenomenon next. Meme marketing? I don't even know if it has a name.
I'll admit, I ice-bucketed. I was called out by one of my oldest friends. Literarily, we were in the same kindergarten class. Prior to dumping the bucket on my head, I asked that everyone that sees the video take the time to write their congressman and ask for increased funding allocated to the NIH. I held up my own letter and then my daughter got a big kick out of dumping water on me. I didn't call out anyone.
