There are some really beautiful places on this list. It makes me wonder if people actually live in these places or if every single one of those homes/structures is either a bed and breakfast or owned for purposes outside of every-day living. Meaning people don't live in those homes and then head off to their job working at the wharf. mike, one of the most beautiful images was of Reine, Norway. Have you been? Is it near you?
It's not too near to me, a good 12 hour drive from Trondheim where I live. (And I do mean GOOD - the route goes through some amazingly beautiful areas). I've been to Bodø which is very close - I was there in May and went out in a RIB boat onto the world's strongest tidal current. It wasn't strong that day. "A twice in a lifetime experience" my host told me.
I, too, would be interested to learn if people actually live there or if they're predominantly tourist/commuter communities. I don't know if I could relocate to something so beautiful. I'd be afraid I'd start taking it for granted and/or the rest of the world would look dull and muddy by comparison. The Croatian coastal village surprised me the most. I'm not sure why--I guess I've just never associated Croatia with beauty (or anything, really). I wonder if living is cheap there? It would be nice to live the expat life for a year or so and just focus on writing.
I used to know a guy from Croatia. He was pretty well-off so the cost of living rarely came up, but rest assured that any area of the Croatian coast he ever mentioned looked stunning. For that reason, the pictures from Croatia, Norway, and Ireland were the only ones I expected to look as nice as they did.
