darn, I really wanted to hear it. I am brand new here, but am coming from a music school and am learning how to use Ableton Live and Ableton Push. I really look forward to sharing things with you, and partaking in something like this in the future.

It would be awesome to hear some more hubski bands. I've noticed a lot of interest on these posts from people that want to collaborate, hopefully something can get put together.

I know ButterflyEffect wanted to put something together. I'm all for it and think there should be a number of them happening at once. I only limit the people on the ones we are working on because it can get difficult to manage the process with too many cooks in the kitchen.

Hi. At the moment I can contribute bleeps n' bloops (LSDJ electronic stuff) and I'm going to see if there's any decent way to record my amp directly into my laptop tonight. Need to figure out how to eliminate some noise.

How would you propose this work? Would people basically record their instrument and send the sound file along until someone would compile the parts, do a little mastering, and release it?

T-Dog  ·  3918 days ago  ·  link  ·

That's basically how this one works, except parts are compiled as the file goes from person to person. For this song, drums were recorded, then guitar/organ on top of that track, then I added bass to the drums + guitar/organ track. Then the person after me uses my version, etc. We have been using soundcloud to share with each other because it's easy (and everyone can use their own software), but I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to go about it.

It's a pretty low fi arrangement =P, but we've been having fun with it so far. You can look through the original music club tag for a better idea of how the process works.

Hmmm... So I don't really have the ability to record myself playing anything. I may be interested in taking samples that people record and mix them.... Yeah that idea sounds like a lot of fun. But I have to reach a little better level of understanding my DAW. This interaction seems promising, though.

Did you try the link? Soundcloud is acting wonky.

user-inactivated  ·  3918 days ago  ·  link  ·

Yes, "Sorry! We can't find that track. Did you try to access a private track, but were not logged in? Maybe the track has been removed."

That's what I get when I hit the soundcloud link

thenewgreen  ·  3918 days ago  ·  link  ·

Okay, it should be embedded here now. Sorry about that.

mrjasonetaylor  ·  3918 days ago  ·  link  ·

yeah it keeps telling me it can't be found as well.

Try the link in the player here now.

I finally found what was picking at my brain.

<div class="videowrapper">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCgQuj8v2gg

This song jumped into my mind during the outro at the end, specifically the repeating melody over the vamp on the tonic. Different keys, but transposed and reimposed and thrown over this groove was fun times!

I mean the chord progressions are quite different, I had to sort of stretch this idea to make it sound good. Fixing that pink floyd groove in my mind to make it fit well with the tempo of this collaboration you put up was more of the challenge than anything, while still capturing that pink floyd melody

thenewgreen  ·  3917 days ago  ·  link  ·

My favorite Floyd song.

I'd love to hear what you came up with.

user-inactivated  ·  3917 days ago  ·  link  ·

Coincidence, I think not.

It really wasn't anything more than my pursuit of this melody that jumped out upon hearing your collab. Basically playback the collaboration and take whatever instrument you want and just figure out that pink floyd riff and play it in the key of E rather than it's original key of G. That's all I really did.

With that said, I am really starting to think that coming across this social construct, with the people I've encountered thus far, is almost too good to be true.

I am just learning the ropes of Ableton Live, the computerized perspective of music making is very new to me, I'm from a background of classical piano, and free improv. So I would love to add something in the future but would probably need a hand to get myself to a point of effectively contributing something. This sounds like a lot of fun though =)

Ah man!!! I'm digging this vamp. I'm gonna go break it down on my keyboard now! Be back later with questions and comments, as I am bound they will come up.
