I would like to ask the Hubski community to comment and leave some feedback about my bands album. We have a few Facebook friends (fans) but... family and friends aren't really critical and support for when it comes to our music especially of the heavy rock kind. Ive always believed that a good song will get passed around, just like back in the days when myself and mates would swap tapes to share music. We actually don't push our tunes but prefer to just put em out there and see who supports us. Anyways, would love some crew to just let us know if its shit or half decent?! Cheers Guys! The full album you can preview on iTunes: iTunes link
Thank you guys for the feedback it is well appreciated and it reenforces what I felt. Although its sometimes hard to be critical of ones own work, the writing process and hearing it all come together is what i enjoy the most. After, I tend to just move onto the next song. Locally every band here seems to all be screemo metal, and i hold the same position as @thenewgreen and @Jeshk0 stated, nothing new coming out just imitation. So i can see my own stuff with a fresher perspective. All the songs are done by myself and then i bring in the singer and drummer later so its more about fun factor! ... and yeah, singer has a decent set of pipes! I seriously think this has been the most realistic feedback yet, just whats needed. Cheers Guys! :)
As a heads up, if you want someone to be alerted to your comment/post, you can do this: @ username @, but without the spaces. I'd say to use it sparingly, though, because that sends notifications/emails to the user, and if you spam it it can get annoying. Welcome to Hubski, we love us some user-created content - and as a side note, it's weird to say "we", but I'd like to think I've done my time.
Hey there. Thanks for posting this. I'm one of those hyper geeky "massive music library" types, which I say only to set up that I've listened to and appreciated a lot of music. I think you've done a pretty good job. I've read in the thread that there is a huge market for this sound I agree, so keep it up and stay dedicated and you might actually do well for yourself. As for criticism, the only thing that struck me as "the same" were the lyrics. Not so much the theme or the message of the song, but the words chosen. The reason I point this out this way is that most music within most genres amounts to "the same" as something else. What sets good bands apart is only the way they deliver the message, and then the message itself. You're doing well in my book. Don't focus overly much on being original, since frankly I'm not sure how you could do that without reinventing music itself.
This is not my style of music but I used to play in bands like this when I was younger. There's a large market for this type of music though and plenty of people that would like this. Here's my take: -It has cool parts that work together but it's a bit long, there's no reason this song needs to be longer than 3m. Tighten it up. -At 3:13 I dug the guitar alone like that. Might be a cool way to intro the song. Instead of the little guitar melody you currently have. -Takes too long to get to vocals imo. -I like the vocals. For this genre, your singer has some pipes. All in all, I'd say you've got something good going for the genre you are in. Here is a link to a band I used to play with many years ago that I think is of a similar style. -They've got plenty of people that dig them even though they're not reinventing the wheel. They're just having fun with music and there's nothing wrong with that. Good luck with it, have fun and thanks for sharing.
Yeah, I pretty much agree with Jeshk0. Whilst it isn't exactly groundbreaking or unique, some people just aren't really interested in that. If you just want have fun and rock out with some classic sounding hard rock then it's a pretty decent attempt. 'Do what you like and you love it' to quote the song. I'd probably wouldn't go as low as saying it was 'mediocre', just 'good'. Not terrible, not amazing, just standard. Also, whilst good music usually does get passed around, sometimes a little push goes a long way. If there's promotional avenues who think you're music is good and, in turn, can pass it 10,000 more potential listeners, you shouldn't ignore that just for the sake of being nonchalant. You were pushed into this world (most likely - Cesareans noted), so keep on pushing!
I may sound like an asshole in the following post. But that's only because sometimes I'm an asshole. It's mediocre. Not to say that you guys don't have any skill or talent, you do, but the music is fairly dull. There's nothing new here. You're making music that sounds like other music. The hard rock genre hasn't changed in a long time and your music could easily have come out twenty years ago and been mistaken for "that one metal band." My philosophy when it comes to music is to always do something new. Experiment. Experiment with the genre, with the instruments, with recording. Don't copy another band (which is what it sounds like), but create something new.
Didn't come across as asshole-ish. Im fine with criticism, in fact i think its what makes someone a better person when they are able to reflect on some critique. Been experimenting a lot lately on different stuff so it'll be interesting to see what comes out of the studio next!
