Good Evening Hubski.
Recently, we've heard comments about the new user experience and how it might be improved.
Today, we have added a page in response to those comments. It covers the basics and will hopefully aid new users in understanding what Hubski is, what makes Hubski different, and some of the unique features that can be found on Hubski.
Feel free to share this page with people that you think would be a great fit for Hubski.
As always, feedback is appreciated.
Enjoy!
Oh - Hell -Yes! Nice work mk. The #weeklymusicthread just got a whole lot cooler. Thank you for this.
I don't always have time to sit down and write thought out comments, so knowing that comments are welcomed on older posts is beneficial to me because I can still contribute to the discussion on my own time.
Seriously? That's no bueno. Anyone else ever experience this?
Now that it's been mentioned, that has happened to me before. I don't pay much attention to the email alerts but yeah, it hasn't been terribly consistent.
Huh, that's not cool. mk and forwardslash can we test this out? I've never had any issues and generally get mine without a minute of receiving a comment, new follower or shout-out. It should be mentioned that if someone shouts out to you as an edit, it will not send you a notification. But as for the "primer page," any suggestions or do you think it hits the spot?
I haven't received an email notification for that reply. Maybe I unsubscribed from them and forgot. As for the primer, I think an additional sentence or two with regards to the speed of the site might be good. Stressing quality over quantity is important. It also might be good to mention that while there are followers, Hubski is not a popularity contest and that the purpose is quality articles and comments, not gathering the most followers and badges. Last, an inclusion of the tmi feature would be nice. I'm biased though since that's one of my favorite parts of Hubski.
more about this then?: I like the idea of stressing that it's not about popularity but I think the TMI page might be a good "find" for someone, you know? I wonder if that was forgotten about or left out purposefully? insomniasexx I don't remember any of us mentioning TMI the other night, do you? ButterflyEffect, can you check your settings and see if email notifications are off?Another difference is the "speed" of the site. Users are encouraged to slow down, digest, and discuss the topics fully. Commenting on older posts is similarly encouraged. The Hubski algorithm will inject that old post back into the feed whenever the discussion revives.
Totally forgot about TMI. We should add TMI and the YouTube/image embed feature as well. I'll collect all these comments and revise with mk tomorrow.
I, uh, can't even seem to find the email notification option. But I'm pretty sure they're off. I am, however, 100% certain I have experienced the same problem as Zebra in the past. P.S. thenewgreen, probably an update post coming with regards to Dadstache over the next few days.
uh_oh, this is the page I was mentioning to you.
elizabeth, _refugee_, lil and many others that have helped steer new users in the right direction, this was born largely out of conversations we have seen you have with newbies. Thank you. Hopefully you find it comprehensive enough, though we should leave some things for newbies to discover on their own. Great work insom!
1) Yes. This has been needed for a long time. Nice work. 2) "On Hubski, you can follow users, tags, and domains. You+R+ feed is the result of who and what you follow." 3) "Why is Hubski based around following users rather than topics?" I would say the jury is still out on this one. The site is perfectly functional without following anyone, otherwise I would have capitulated long ago. 4) "Many people assume that this could result in a site full of "power-users," Let's put a pin in that, as Walter White says. I personally feel that me, MK and TNG have an undue influence on what people see. Is that due to structure? Is that due to an early advantage? Either way, it's an uncomfortable feeling. 5) "What are some of Hubski's features?" …could use some visual aids. The goal of "I want to give someone a badge" must necessarily be accompanied by the deduction "therefore I must click on this 8-point exclamation mark next to a plus sign." This would also be a great place to put the current iteration of MK's bizarre-ass Markup mutation.
