I was talking to insomniasexx about this. To summarize what I learned: The big hub wheel in the top left is the website logo. It's a static image link that brings you back to your feed. Similar to the "reddit" logo in the top left of reddit. The little one to the right of your name is kind of like your current karma. I'm not quite sure on the specifics on how to fill it up, but it has to do with people sharing your comments/links. Similar to reddit. Unlike reddit, once it fills up, you get a badge to give out. This is kind of like reddit gold, but doesn't do anything. It's like how reddit gold says "this is an excellent post". Same goes for badges. For the hubwheels next to the submissions and comments: The ones next to submissions means you share the submission. Anyone following you will see it on their feed if you share it. Think of your account as a subreddit, and people can subscribe to you. Anything you share is kind of like reposting it into that subreddit. The hubwheels next to comments are different. Essentially they are just an upvote. They say "this is a great comment." As far as I'm aware, clicking on it does not share it with your followers. It just acts like a regular upvote. Hopefully that answered your question. Also, if I got anything wrong (hopefully not), insomniasexx should be here to correct me.
I'm here! x2! Great explanation, Kafke. I would have used less comparisons to reddit but I guess, know your audience. :) I would only add: karma, upvotes, etc don't exist on hubski. It's all about building a community of amazing people sharing and discussing amazing things. There is no magical number that shows off how awesome you are. Also, karma on reddit is worthless but filling up your hubwheel here isn't. You get a badge which you then get to give away. Obviously, we're all about sharing here rather than voting up or accumulating internet points. supasmasha, let us know if you have any more questions. We're here to happily explain things. You can always wrap a username in @ symbols to shout specific people out in this thread so that you don't have to make a new thread or feel like you are yelling into cyberspace. :) Enjoy!
Yea, I would've used less references to reddit if it wasn't mentioned. I figured it'd be best to relate features to what reddit can (or almost can) do. That's how I first approached the site. Even though now I know that it's much more nuanced. Also, good call mentioning that it's not really karma/upvotes. I find those are the best examples I can think of, but obviously they are handled way differently.
Thanks very much. Relating it to Reddit is a big help, since I've been quite familiar with that. The amount of courtesy and niceness is also surprising. And not a single pun or meme to be seen. I think I'll like Hubski.
Great synopsis Kaftke! You are right that clicking the hub-wheel next to comments does not share them, it is just a sign of appreciation that raises the comment in the thread. Also, fwiw -give it three months and you'll be able to "pin" or "stick" a post on reddit too :)
