I personally found out about it by a post on Reddit.
came in with the freshest batch of redditors. i like the hubski community waaayyy better
I saw the mention on reddit the other day, but couldn't connect to Hubski at the time - probably due to the influx of other redditors - so I bookmarked it for later. I'm now in the 'keep quiet and figure it out' stage - having a browse around, reading and sharing, getting my head round Hubski's culture and revisiting the tutorial in order to avoid making an idiot of myself (though I'm sure there's still ample opportunity for that).
Eh, just partake in the discussions and be nice
Same. Slowly getting acclimated to the place. Definitely seems to have a better comment culture overall.
Glad you dig it here. btw, I like your username. For a long time the google-search that drove the most people to Hubski was wombat poop. -No kidding. It is pretty fascinating looking stuff. How do they do that?
In days of yore I moved to darkest Tasmania to live in a small cottage on the wild coast and write a novel. Not having a television I spent a great deal of time listening to Radio National and surfing the internet. On one particularly fateful night I chanced upon fledgling Hubski in its first first few months of genesis. I recognised the usernames of two people (kleinbl00 and @saydrah@) who'd been prominent identities on a very popular news aggregator site (the name of which now escapes me) before it went into decline. I decided to loiter awhile, and two years later am still here.
wrong. While I know that we are new to you and to many that are now here, we are far from new. We have had steady growth since we started Hubski. The majority of that has come from word of mouth, people telling friends about us or tweeting "check out hubski" etc. -This is great and truly flattering. Then a few times we have had some big hit days from reddit/hackernews. But we've also been fortunate to have some people write about us: Early on: Daily Dot Recently: NPR Michgian Radio, Red Ferret and a handful of others. It is a mistake to think that reddit is the only place that has contributed to our growth. Most of the people here also came from reddit, but at earlier times.
Wow, I had no idea this place has been around for so long, and I've been searching for a reddit alternative for a few weeks now. I just came in from the reddit thread yesterday and am still getting used to it here, but I feel like I'll fit in with the community here better. I've also been telling my friends about this site today, so that will boost those "word of mouth" numbers, I'm sure, even if it's just a couple people.

Welcome! Thanks for spreading the word. I fell like that is the best way to get people to know about the site. We don't do any advertising etc. we rely on you guys. Glad you found us!
Oh damn. Sorry about that. I know this place has been around for a while, but I was under the impression it was started by someone on reddit, and thus, most traffic coming from reddit. It just kind of feels really low key and unknown. Which is why I figured the majority probably came from reddit.
No worries Kafke. mk was a redditor as well as being on other sites that hugely influenced us early on. In fact, the site is coded in Arc and was built on the Hacker News template. You can't really tell anymore, but when it was first up and running it looked very similar. Protip -Check out your settings and change your "style" to Dark. It's awesome.
Quite unsurprisingly, I come from Reddit. I found out through an r/AskReddit or a r/BestOf post, I think - something about what may make Reddit quality content decline, and some people were asking about alternatives among which Hubski was mentioned. I quite like it here. The design, the wheel system, the quality comment culture. It does feel like I don't fit in, though, but that's just my depreciating self talking. :p
I cam over from Reddit, but it was from a post made about a year ago. I've been a part of Hubski ever since!
