Thanks for this.

It seems people use them less over time. My friend that excitedly got one early on said that it was only good for movies, and then only alone, and that it's too heavy.

I do wonder if having a screen so close to your eyes is unhealthy.

The DNC will be to blame. Maybe me a bit, but mostly the DNC. Particularly because Trump is going to win by a wide margin.

If you don’t want Trump, your issue isn’t really with me.

Maybe that’s tautological.

But I don’t want Biden to be president. If I did, I would just vote for him. I feel like I’m setting a very low bar but I don’t think he’ll survive 4 years, and he’s in serious cognitive decline. I don’t think he’s currently fit for office. He has the nuclear codes. The Ukraine situation is going to probably come to a head in the next few years. He can’t even admit his own decline, and his admin is unable to act rationally. Both candidates are extremely unfit. I’m not voting for either. I don’t want to be beholden to one brand of insanity over another. This has gone too far. No thanks. I’ll be quietly prepping. Happy to consider a replacement though!

I won’t for Biden or Trump. I’d very likely vote for a different democrat. I assume there are lots of independents like me.

Yes, I do know something about dementia and he actually looks like he’s in an early stages. Could be vascular. But even if it’s not “dementia” his cognitive decline is bad, very very bad for someone past the average life expectancy running for president. Trump isn’t an excuse for that. CNN didn’t cause everyone to see it and say omg beyond hosting the debate that the Biden campaign wanted.

mk  ·  151 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Dear Joe, it’s time to go

People don’t want a president with dementia. Not such a crazy notion.

For every voter that doesn’t see trump as “hitler 2” (which is a very large number), the preference leans away from the guy with dementia.

Of course, one can argue that he doesn’t actually have dementia, but if he doesn’t, he plays the part well enough.

mk  ·  151 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Dear Joe, it’s time to go

Yeah. Ironic that Joe won’t give it up.

Yes. I watched. It was a bloodbath. Biden came out of the gate with a stumbling non-sequitur that ended with him saying he stopped medicare. It didn’t get much better. He’s clearly in mental decline.

Those can’t be non-partisan analysts.

Hope the DNC gets themselves a new ticket. I’ve been the annoying chicken little with family and friends warning about what happened last night.

Related, I feel like the internet, the median and social part of it, is mostly bad for people. We read and debate garbage all the time. It adapts to us, and attempts to make us incorrect. I’m deleting apps and spending less time on it.

What should hubski's warning be?

When would be the most strategic time for the Dems to replace Biden? Two weeks before the convention?

mk  ·  172 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: LLM Visualization

IMHO “billionaire class” is political bait, and the debate around AI using the same stuff we do to learn is a distraction from the existential matter at hand.

What I see, is a laissez-faire approach that will let it get away from us, and a social engineering approach that will enslave us all.

We’re in trouble.

Not just predicting the next word.

Biden won't because he'll look too old and slow.

The Dems jumped the shark.

This kind elderly gentleman is not going to be the next president.

I used to listen to NPR quite a bit. Now I don't. Too little news, too much messaging.

I hear you. But maybe we all need a bit more friction for the good things in life.

Imagination is a novel synthesis of information. These things will eventually have eyes, ears, conversations, etc., and multiple models working as one. We will be out-imagined.

This technology is in its infancy and it can make videos from short text prompts and you think its going to look anything like this in 10 years? You could make a strong case against YouTube in 1995. It's not going to make storyboards, it's going to churn out movies and commercials by the millions and they might be individualized for each viewer.

mk  ·  285 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: OpenAI's Sora

Very true. I'm not expressing an opinion. I'm not sure how I feel about this, and by its very nature, we cannot predict where this is going.

But it is interesting at the very least.

Now you see why Altman has been working hard at UBI. I don't think he'll solve that, but he knows we are fast approaching a world where humans won't be worth much on the job market. People are starting to understand.

TBH if you don't like capitalism, you should like this.

The performance scales with compute. People are not ready for what is coming.

“ It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.”

This is where we are atm.

I don't think you believe I live in a bubble. Ann Arbor is definitely a bubble, and Biden is very safe here, but I have lots of relations outside of A2.

It's a second Trump term. That's not a crazy proposition or a narrative. The Dems thought Hillary was going to win. They think Biden will win again. I think they are wrong.

mk  ·  307 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Pubski: January 24, 2024

To you, but have you always voted for the winning candidate?

The hard truth is that people aren't nearly as freaked out about a second Trump term as we (or apparently the dems) expect. Biden looks like a strong wind will knock him over, and sounds worse. Trump will definitely want to debate Biden, and he will utterly destroy him if Biden does.

Also, no one I know likes Kamala. No one.

Biden has no clothes and the dems are pretending he does: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/biden-approval-rating/

The disapproval goes deeper than that in the midwest. It’s also “I’m sick of the dems woke shit” and “he seems dementic”. That’s what friends and family tell me.
