Has been a great 2nd day in California. Heres a quick rundown of the past 2 weeks

Found a great store with a great deal in California (bay area).

Got in contact with broker

Booked flight to Cali (from NJ, flight was great)

Yesterday we saw the store and met with the broker and owner, a sweet and honest 70 year old woman

Today we traveled around and gave an offer to the broker to write up. We went to the Marin Headlands and Golden Gate state park (highly recommend if you enjoy hiking/nature).

Now we are waiting for the deal to be written up and hopefully she'll accept the deal we gave her. If she doesn't I think I am going to buy by any means necessary. I really liked it (healthfood store) and I don't think I will be able to find this type of store/deal ever again, a real steal (very lucky). My family also has been living below the poverty line for the past 8 or so years and I feel like I can help actualize what my brother mom and sister deserve, or what i think they deserve.

I'm all in for moving here, it's all i've ever wanted. It's got a bunch of micro-climates so depending on how you wanna experience your day you can enjoy it in many ways. People are super friendly and the indie scene is poppin. near the ocean so i can look at it for hours. and so much more. I feel so blessed and finally feel like the hard(?)work I've put in has finally paid off. Hope for the best hubski!

Favorite cool jazz next to trane's giant steps. Brubeck did something very rare in jazz, in that he connected it with the masses

My daughter woke up at one point - I heard her saying "come in!" at 3am and had to go in and explain that there was a critter trying to get into the kitchen to get food. She saw no reason our kitchen couldn't accommodate a "creature" since it was cold outside and we had a lot of food. I then had to explain that outside animals are better outside. She seemed to buy it, but this morning she had created an entire cosmology about the creature that knocks on the door at night.

aw

My daughter will not grow up with vermin. She will not have rodents that bite coming into her room. She will consider it deviant to crush animals to death because the cat's too lazy to eat them. She will not lose classmates to plague spread by squirrels, she will not have siblings nearly killed by hantavirus because her parents are too drunk to deal with the squalor. She will not fear running the garbage disposal at 3am; she will not have reason to run the garbage disposal at 3am. And that is something worth drinking to. That is something that outweighs the obsession with poncy German clocks, that outweighs the life wasted in pursuit of words never read.

I'm doing a better job than my parents did, so it hasn't been a total waste.

best thing I've read today thanks

pathetic. It seems like anyone who is put into a position of unadministered power and zero consequence becomes unethical and immoral as possible. even if for the short-term they act like they have our interests in mind. quite depressing

Well, from what I understand of the black swan is that Nassim, according to his theory, knows there will be a Hitler (black swan) but the predictability of when it will happen in the future is the issue of contention. If you got to a close enough of a timeline where you were able to oversee the various factors that contributed to the rise of hitler and nazism, then yes there is predictability, but that's because you were given so much information. Why the distate for taleb? Even though his ideas might not flow smoothly in the context of history, he has made fortunes out of assuming underlyings of black swans and it's served him pretty well.

asteroidblues  ·  2999 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Looking for a book recommendation about finance / macroeconomics

not directly finance related, but Nassim Taleb's Black Swan explores some very cool ideas. also here's a large collection of pdfs of finance related books, enjoy

is it possible in today's society, where the power structures are so rigid, to ever take power away from the bankers? will we just have to wait until there are ethically responsible ones?

don't have as much breadth in terms of what I read concerning my world view (mostly political theory and economics) so i would say manufacturing consent by chomsky (and then all of his other stuff ;p) and the new jim crow by michelle alexander. Also I would read influential writers like paine, smith, and marx

Agree a lot with rezzeJ about James Blake creating a very unique sound and the going on to show not only how powerful of an expression his sound can be but to master it witht this album. i felt like there were no filler tracks and the production's nuance clearly shows what hes been upto for the past 3 years

I hated reading the part about the Koch brothers literally buying out the congress. Hopefully Clinton maintains her leftist-ish views (which she so humbly adopted from the sanders camp) and does something about all this money. Its a real shame.

In other news I have begun writing a general series on Project Euler related mathematics. No spoilers, no solutions; just a overview of required material and guide over various branches of mathematics. It was inspired by bhrgunatha in this post. I will likely finish making website for it tomorrow.

Real cool site. Always love engaging in these sorts of problems. thanks
