Bloatware is a huge problem on phones as you can't remove it w/o a root, and I understand the rhetorical problems with it, but can't one just unintall the software?
Oh I agree. We need to make it harder for one to sidestep the regulation set in place and break up the echo chambers of stormfront and reddit (although, I don't really know how that could be achieved sadly).
I have an idea for a book. It's a cliche YA fantasy novel, where a group of kids are picked by prophecy to fight an ancient threat. The spin is that the ancient threat was a little late, fifteen or so years late. So the teenagers have all become middle aged. Just the thought of a pudgy accountant swinging an ethereal claymore warms the cockles of my heart.
I dislike that middle bit of your last paragraph. I also have friends that I talk to, don't know why having a smartphone hints at my lack of friends. Other than that, yeah we just have different ways of life. I embrace new tech as I see how it can help me and how I can incorporate it into my life. Also all my information is backed up on at least two different hard drives (I quickly found out in highschool that the amount of copies you have of something is # of hard drives - 1). If something happened to my phone, laptop, or desktop I'd just get another and load everything back on. I've never dealt with a power outage that lasted more than 8 hours, the life of my phone.
I'm jealous. I haven't lifted for a month due to illness. How'd it go for you?
Thanks man, I just finished a rough outline today and am working out characters. After making this comment I realized that no one is born writing, if I want to read that story I better make it.
Oh okay that makes sense. I read it as a demining "kids these days never talk to one another" instead of you talking about how you communicate. My bad. That's probably it, I didn't even think about that. Such a foreign concept to me to not be able to access the net at all time, it's been that way for me all my life.
We've never understood spending money on a wedding, it'd be better to save that up for our dreams instead. The most expensive part will be the ring, and she's never liked diamonds so it'll probably be less than 2k + court fees all together.
>I have no idea what I'm talking about Don't worry man, no one does, that's the point of phylosophy The problem is that if the mind and brain are one in the same, then you can't transfer it without transferring the brain. You can't take something out of it self, you know? If you think differently, prove me wrong, I don't want to be right haha The idea is that if dualism is true then we can model the states that link the mind and brain in a machine and link it to the mind. No one really seems to believe in dualism so it's a moot point either way.
Just depends on where you stand on the question of duality. If you think the mind and brain are separate, than it can be passed from one form to another, but if you don't agree with that then it can't be passed as it IS the brain. Luckily that's a century old debate so there's enough literature to stand on. Unfortunately from what I see most stand on the side opposite of dualism.
Also, anyone know of a way to train oneself for living on little sleep?
I want to get into the Rocky Mountain biological lab summer program next year, this means that I must get my GPA up. I failed some courses due to anxiety freshman semester, and now that I've dealt with that disorder I feel confident picking up the pieces of my life. So this next semester I'm re-taking those courses (on top of the 12 hours needed to stay on track of course). I will pass and the F's will be expunged from my record, which will shoot my gpa up high enough to where I can apply to that program without shame. I also am doing an hour of duolingo / khan / and writing for my other goals of learning Swedish, advanced Algebra, and writing a book.
My fingers are crossed so hard. I've always hated sleep, hopefully we can learn to do with less. It reminds me of a sci-fi horror I read awhile back. It was set in a world where people could live 24 hours without sleep. The natural thing happens and people now work 18 or so hours a day. The main character is someone allergic to the medicine that reduces the need for sleep. No one will hire him, and the jobs he does get have such long hours that he barely has a life. Why pay someone a full-time wage if they can't physically work for an entire shift? The conflict was something outlandish, but it's the world that always stuck with me. Maybe it wont be such a nice place when we don't need 10 hours of rest.
FPH got onto /r/all regularly, no other hate sub achieved that. They constantly posted pictures from other parts of reddit to make fun of those people, There's no way a system like that doesn't leak. The problem is that subs like this allow people to feel that their ideas are validated. You cannot argue that hating on a massive group of people is normal or okay.
Well, an hour on either end for getting to bed and waking up. I'm in uni so (if my luck is good) I can decide how long I get to sleep. It's nice.
it's a artistic depiction of a 24 hour clock that allows one to plan their day nicely, it's similar to a bullet journal in the goal.
I use a chronodeck during school to keep me on track.
I'm studying Bio Man I'm jealous, I've always looked at physics and math majors the same way old cultures looked at mystics or mages. Y'all work in a field I have next to no understanding of.
Germany has the Nazi symbol banned, not just because it is offensive but because allowing people to wave them around could breed Nazi sympathy. Although our culture does not really permit the government banning free speech it's an interesting analogue. I think history belongs in the museum. The confederates lost, and just on a patriotism level I don't like the idea of that flag flying.
Are you open for criticism or are you just sharing?
Are they in NSM? I may know them. That'd be some next level 6 degrees of separation shit. Solid. What are you studying?
Yo you're in Texas? What part? I'm in Dallas going to UTD. It's neat to find nearby people online.
The site's been crashing (for me at least) a lot since the redditors moved over. I'll grab a screen shot next time, it's hilarious.
Oh I'm going to avoid post grad education if I can, I am not an academic person. I love bacteria, specifically the relationships between them. But ecosystems also mirror this relationship, so macro biology isn't off the table. I really could enjoy anything, as long as life is involved. I'm a B- student in a pretty competitive college, the profs I've build relations with are looking for someone better, and I don't have the stomach for cold emailing (although I probably should just swallow my pride and go for it.)
The gay community (in my area at least) used to use bandanna's for just that. Not a new idea, but still a fun one.
Dixie national park. We arrived there after a hellish camping trip (which is why I can't even remember what state it was it) it was the first camp-site we'd seen with shade and comfort. Not "trailer park, stay home" comfort, but the kind you want on a camping trip. It was a beautiful forest with great hiking and friendly campers. Maybe it was because of the poor status of the other sites, but I really recommend it. Also the sand dunes of Colorado are great. They look beautiful on the sunrise and set, plus the art communes sprinkling the area make the trip worth it. People come to paint the dunes and stay for the mountains. It's a magical place.
It's called cuban coffee if you want to look more into it. Yeah they can be tricky little shits. My advice is to keep it on a slightly hotter than medium heat, just enough to boil but not boil hard. Then keep the lid off and watch it like a hawk. The moment the coffee comes out clearish remove from heat. Never let it grumble. Also whenever I'm too lazy for that I just brew two cups of coffee and mix in two shots of espresso. I hate myself a little.
I bike the five or so miles it takes to get to uni every day. It's not bad, nice even to get some fresh air before class. For some reason though everyone I tell acts as if I'm walking across a desert barefoot everyday. Doesn't bug me, I just find it amusing. I hope you enjoy your new found mode of transport, it definitely beats walking or driving.
It's a wonderful mug even without the text. Fits like, two to three cups of coffee (my morning blend now is two cups of coffee, two shots of espresso, and some milk). The handle fits all four of my fingers, which never happens with normal sized mugs. All in all I 100% endorse it.
We'll try haha
