Yep, that Vulkan API is what I was talking about. Only reason I'd be more hopeful than not in this situation is that games are coming out (AAA titles) that are utilizing this API and are working wonderfully on AMD cards. But that's not really what you're looking for. Unfortunately I don't know about OpenCL but if keifermiller is right, it doesn't seem like much of a hassle to get installed on a Windows partition. Honestly going to Windows shouldn't be much of a pain for you. I think it would be similar to going from Android to iOS. With Android you can more or less do things how you want, make it how you want and with iOS it may look pretty and work well most of the time but you have to do things their way. That's oversimplified admittedly but it's more or less what I have noticed most when switching between the two.
Not that waiting longer is ever a good solution but with Vulkan coming out/being fully realized I would be hopeful of more stable drivers coming in the near future (1-2 years). In the mean time you could always dual boot with Windows so at least you have an environment where you don't have to worry about system compatibility. I definitely don't like being forced into Windows to play games either but at least you don't have to deal with the occasional hiccup.
If you have time and are up for some hiking check out the Tent Rocks its an easy hike and if you go early enough you can beat most of the crowds. Hiking through there reminded me a lot of Antelope Canyon in Paige Arizona but with less color and a whole lot more freedom. If you're driving in from the west I would recommend making a two or three hour detour to El Marro and taking the short hike to the top. There's also the Bandelier National Monument. It's more out of the way like El Marro but it's neat nonetheless. And if you really do take kleinbl00's recommendation to heart, go to Santa Fe. I haven't spent a whole lot of time in each city but I can say without a doubt I have always had a better time in Santa Fe.
If you're looking for something simple like a point and shoot that will also take photos you won't be disappointed in then the Sony RX100 is what you're looking for. Just pop in a memory card and run with it. The price may seem high but this is around where you should be looking if you're wanting to beat out the quality of phone cameras. Also with this one the speed and low-light capabilities will be nice compared to phones. If you want something a little more expensive the Ricoh GR is a sweet little camera. *I should add if you aren't looking to spend around that I'd just save the money instead and use a phone. I don't think it'd be worth it otherwise.
It's a camera lens diagram. I'm a hobbyist photographer and wanted something to show that off.
Awesome work, if I had an mITX motherboard I'd scoop one of these up in an instant. Have you thought of posting this to /r/pcmasterrace? They would eat this up! And like kleinbl00 mentioned if this was rack mountable that would be amazing.
AMD is always an okay choice for a budget build, no problem there. I think you'd be happy switching to a more powerful GPU like you mentioned Its always nice getting to max or nearly max out the graphics and not having to tinker for the best graphics to FPS ratio. As for mech keyboards, go to Massdrop.com and pick one up there. They're all awesome and you can get them (usually) well under normal prices. Not to mention you can choose your switches which is great. And I have to recommend the Asus PB278Q for a monitor. It has good color fidelity and can be overclocked to 85Hz for some sweet looking gaming! *Almost forgot mice. I have the Logitech G502 and Corsair M65, they're both sturdy, hefty mice that have a reasonable amount of customization. It's basically choosing which brand you like most.
A bit different compared to the others, World of Tomorrow. It's an animated short that was one of the award winners at Sundance last year. I was lucky enough to get to see most/all of the award winning shorts at one of my local theaters and this was tied for my favorite. It's even available on Netflix.
Waking Life is a fucking trip. Similar but less intense is A Scanner Darkly. I'd highly recommend it if you haven't seen it already.
I was going to throw The Wind Rises into the ring but Princess Mononoke is a better choice. Really anything Studio Ghibli especially those by Hayao Miyazaki .
Not to get too far off topic but it is a bit of a shame that was the case with your girlfriend's sister. If she wanted to be big and strong, fuck it. Who is anyone to judge. It's been awesome to see powerlifting getting more popular with women and having more women compete! But I digress, tamales sound great for lunch today.
You mean dehydration is good for looking strong/ripped? Having to do a water cut with 2 hour weigh-ins is the bane of my powerlifting existence. It's hard to rehydrate enough before squats start and not be bloated. But that said trying to walk around always looking your best is going to be fucking tough. Not having glycogen to run off of like you said is going to hinder any sort of strength you have but damn you'll probably look good doing it. I think this is where a pretty good distinction between instagrammer and athlete can come in. Look at Sadik right now. He's big, puffy, definitely not looking his best but he's showing there is a process to get to where he is going. (The new classic physique division) Now the guy in the article if he wants to get stronger and keep the same body composition its going to take a long time. Not having a calorie surplus makes it near impossible. And if you want them to help move a couch they'll be so drained they won't be any better help than a normal person. Hopefully my point came across there between the vanity instagrammers and athletes who can seem similar. But that is Zydrunas Savickas one of the better strongmen around right now next to Brian Shaw and Hafthor Bjornsson (The Mountain in GoT). I lift with a strongman at my gym and it is so much fun when I do some of their workouts. If you need someone to help you move they're the ones, if they can lift a few hundred pound atlas stone, they can lift an armchair for you!
I was following pretty well through the article until it brought up Sadik, Cory, and Marc. Are people who compete professionally in bodybuilding and the like really spornosexual? (God I hate that word) These aren't some people who are getting "cut for summer" or something equally as ridiculous. They train daily, take plenty of chemicals, and eat less than satisfying meals because they enjoy the sport, is that now reason enough to be some sort of advanced form of metrosexual? I like what kleinbl00 said You train. You work out. You certainly don't "pump iron" It just feels wrong grouping athletes in with people who do it just for vanity sake. I laugh though, still no mention of powerlifters anywhere. Apparently our cut up shins, fat bodies, calloused hands, and bad eating habits aren't attractive. Fine, we'll just stay in our part of the gym then. You lift.
Just started Girl with Curious Hair by David Foster Wallace. I was gifted all his short story collections so he'll be on my reading list for a while.
To add to this, see how it compares to the Vive when that comes out.
Oh shit. Was not expecting a new album! I thought they were just going on tour, this is great news!
I hope you enjoy them! The musical score for The Revenant is amazing as well just more to look forward to.
For The Lobster Definitely agree with you there on the narration parts. It's a movie that I'll have to watch a few times to really get everything out of it and that is okay with me. Between trying to decipher the French and the originality of it all I missed some bits along the way. Also The Revenant and The Hateful Eight are fantastic. The Revenant blew my mind, might be my favorite movie of the year. As for The Hateful Eight, you have to watch it in 70mm. I watched it at home first (I'm a filthy pirate) and I didn't enjoy it much but in a theater and 70mm made all the difference to me.However, I need to check to see if that's part of the satire that I'm not getting
Exactly! I have gone a season or two without claiming a tag (especially javelina) where I still enjoyed the whole experience.
This was great to read, thanks for sharing! I really wish my introduction to hunting went a lot more like this, focusing more on the responsibility and a little bit of the morality surrounding it. Instead I was shown it was just a sport to shoot and kill, I didn't even have to skin or gut what I killed. Now, like steve does, if I'm invited along I go for the early mornings. hiking, and the tracking/stalking.
I'm in, sign me up!
Oh I would love to see something like that! That's a great idea.
Definitely a good investment to make! And if it were me I'd add all of the above.
