I would not condone stealing from anyone, but I do feel I was raised to believe in the 'Robin Hood' glamorization of theft. When an entity has become less of a human and more of an opposition to the general public (which is assumed to be a weak but just force), then I feel it is appropriate to attempt to overcome this force. In the Robin Hood story it was very simply put as taking what has already been taken from the people and returning it to them. I can't say that all rich people have taken from the general public in direct terms, but I do feel they cheat the public out of funds or material that could have been used to benefit them, such as tax breaks or import benefits that are only given to large importers/exporters (an example of this is the tariffs put on souls of shoes imported from China that many businesses are able to work around such as Converse or Nike). Because of this, I feel it is not necessary to physically steal from them, but rather exploit the system they have set in place. For example, extending company benefits to others even if they do not meet the credentials, such as being a family member. I would explain myself further, but it is a bit late and I'm just about to go to bed. To summarize, I feel it is best for an underdog to exploit a company within it's own terms than to physically commit theft.

Janabutts  ·  4061 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: I just need to vent about my last few weeks.

Hey thanks for checking on me. September was a pretty rough month and has kept me incredibly preoccupied. I moved in with my boyfriend temporarily about a month ago and just two weeks ago we decided it was meant to be and we've decided we should continue living together permanently. Our roommate just moved out last week so I actually have my own room for my things now as well.

Of course my bad luck did not end at my phone and my apartment falling apart. My car that I just purchased has turned out to be a bit of a bad move. One of the windows fell into the door and broke the handle inside the door, the O2 sensor broke, and the transmission seems to be failing. I also got a flat tire within a week of purchasing the car, but that doesn't really have anything to do with the quality of the car. That's just typical Janabutts luck haha. The other milestone is that my best friend/cousin just joined the Navy. I didn't really hit me how much I'm gonna miss that guy until he was gone and I realized I used to hang out with him 3 to 4 times a week. I'm sure he'll do great though and his mom is paying for me to visit him in Chicago for his boot camp graduation in December. Anyways, all that aside, I am actually very happy with life especially now that we've just had our internet turned back on, and I finally received my deposit from my apartment, and I finally feel like I have a home. The stickers did arrive and I have adorned my car, laptop and refrigerator with them. Thanks again :)

I suppose not, but it feels like something I should probably hide.

I'm not sure if it's a guilty pleasure or what, but I've been listening to a lot of David Hasslehoff

This makes a lot of sense to me. I've always considered the blood lust and anger that spreads through media coverage of certain trials to be very similar to mass hysteria. It's as if once a year the media Gods must be appeased with a sacrifice. The person they spotlight for their hatred may not die, but by the end of the coverage, the person has completely changed, and their previous way of life has been taken from them.

Ooh I love coffee based stouts and porters. Kona Porter is amazing if you can get it on tap. The bottled version wasn't quite as tastey when I tried it.

I absolutely love all the Gymnopedie songs. They make you feel nostalgic for something that's never even happened.

Penny Arcade must be synonymous with rape, because rape is never funny.

I love dark beers like stouts and Porters. I'd say my favorite is either Turbo Dog, or Old Rasputin. If I'm in an IPA mood I always go with a Two-Hearted.

Janabutts  ·  4097 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: New Songs from Pixies

Honestly, I've never understood why these famous musicians don't just create a new project rather than pretend it's the same band releasing songs years later with new members and a new style/sound.

Janabutts  ·  4098 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: New Songs from Pixies

I agree, but Kim Deal is also not playing with them and that's kind of a deal breaker for me, no pun intended.

Just to further my opinion to reject the western definition of wealth, here is a list of words in Latin that mean various versions of the word "wealth".

http://www.archives.nd.edu/cgi-bin/lookdown.pl?wealth

compare this to the synonyms of the english word for wealth

http://thesaurus.com/browse/wealth

Wealth was not always about things you can touch or see.

Janabutts  ·  4098 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: "If a rich person has something you need, you should take it."

INCOMING RANT: I love the idea of stealing from the rich, but If there is an even slight profit loss the cutbacks only effect the bottom end. I really don't think there will ever be a solution to the wealth problem. There will always be an enormous gap, and there will always be poor people, and yes, it sucks.

There are times when I am very satisfied with my status quo, despite only earning about 17k a year and not being able to afford a single thing I want, but I still have what I need. I get jealous from time to time, of my friends who could afford college without loans or a job, my friends with brand new cars, brand new clothes, organic food, or even those who are able to go on vacation. It's only because I think I need those things to be happy, but if that's the case, that happiness is never permanent. It slowly disappears once the vacation is over, or the car breaks down, or the clothes wear out and then you just need more and more. The desire to emulate wealth is a drug. It's expensive and very hard to quit. In my opinion, the only way to defeat the rich is to reject their definition of wealth and to stop being selfish and jealous of others.

When I was a kid I was OBSESSED with collecting stuffed animals. I never had dolls or anything that was too pricey, but I had plenty of teddy bears and claw machine toys. I never had enough of them, and I always wanted more. There was a time when I was around 10 or 11, and I had found the coolest stuffed dog you could imagine, and it was only 4 dollars. I started plotting in my head how I could convince my mom to buy it for me and as I did, a question popped into my head. "How will this make my life better?" I responded, "it won't," and I put it back on the shelf and never asked for another stuffed animal or toy again. It's a super corny story, but seriously, even though we are all much better at rationalizing as adults as to how something may benefit you, ask how if you are able to answer the why, and try to be honest with yourself if the benefit is real or a product of indoctrination.

Sorry if this double posts, I'm not sure why my browser keeps doing that.

I'll be honest, my first reaction was "that makes sense." A friend of mine pointed out the benefit of this is the women will not have to go to trial and be forced to relive their captivity in front of a drama hungry/fueled media, and tax payers will no longer have to pay for his existence. I hate to be sadistic, but I would have preferred he stayed alive as long as possible stuck in a tiny cell until he withered away. I don't normally take the blood thirsty side, but I cant think of any other punishment that would better suit his crimes.

I absolutely know what you mean. I acknowledge this job is just a small step toward a brighter future when it comes to my career path. I suppose if I were a lifer I would probably become incredibly apathetic just to retain my sanity.

You may find this to be an interesting read as well.

http://libcom.org/library/phenomenon-bullshit-jobs-david-gra...

After working for the state for only 2 years, I have discovered most of my time is spent trying to look busy. My HR managers would prefer I have nothing to do for 40 hours a week, as long as I am on time, than have me create or find needed projects that create work that would require over time and unpredictable hours. I've always found it very confusing.

Janabutts  ·  4113 days ago  ·  link  ·    ·  parent  ·  post: Hubski Discussion: Breaking Bad S05E10 (plus a suggestion)

The thing I love the most about Breaking Bad is the theme of emotional transformation. This idea parallels the personalty shifts depicted in the short novel Heart of Darkness, and the movies Aguirre: the Wrath of God, The Mosquito Coast, and Apocalypse Now. I constantly keep this in mind when observing Walt's actions, especially since last season it seemed as though Heisenberg had completely taken over Walt's personality. In the two new episodes you can see the panicky/bossy/by-the-book Walt we all used to know and love coming back to light, but I'm not sure if this is just a diversionary tactic in hopes we will have forgotten what a monster Walt has become. If Walt, not Heisenberg, is actually taking over the personality again and he is now forced to see the full damage he has caused to countless people, I really wouldn't doubt if his last words are something along the lines of "the horror, the horror."
