27 years old, about 5 months left of that before turning 28. I see myself as a pretty resilient person, but it’s starting to be a bit long. My roommate met someone after the first lockdown (march-may), and decided to move in with her in September, so I’ve been living by myself in an awesome (lucky) apartment since. I’ve played a crazy amount of time of World of Warcraft between April and December, as I’ve been out of work to do between April and July, and out of work with no job between Aug. and November. I’ve since found a job that I really like so that’s the silver lining of the past few months. But it’s entirely remote for now, I only met one time my manager, otherwise its mostly work and the occasional Teams meeting. It’s hard to date. Picked it up again when I found a job because I didn’t had the desire before. Met 4 people, but I feel like its really hard to connect with someone if you can’t do anything outside because of a curfew/lockdown… So yeah, I do the occasional bending the rules, otherwise the only exit strategy is to go insane. I don’t know how to feel about the strategy. A part of me wants to say that everyone under 50 or something like that should be able to live life as usual as the upsides seems to exceed the downsides of covid19, but I guess we can’t politically act that ; so everybody has to get hurt? I don’t know. How can Israel be at 33.93% of its population vaccinated, but we are only at 0.90% ? It’s insanely slow. I send you all kisses from France, and hope you are holding everything up. Otherwise, you can always shoot me a dm <3
It was the night, it was the day, Feelings were tight, feelings were grey, The sun came down, the sun came up, Another night, a vaccine, another day, Rejoice, humanity saved, Hooray!
Just a gut instinct, but the difference might be due to life expectancy. In 1957/1968 compared to 2020, a lot less "old people" would be there and risk getting killed by a virus, thus the constraint on the economy was non existent?
Thanks a lot for the kind comment! Will check it out :)
Oh these are mine! Sorry for the confusion :)
In 2 days, I'm heading towards Chamonix (France) to hike through the Alps for 12 days to reach Zermatt (Switzerland) :)
Loved reading that, thanks for sharing!
1. Do you have or have you had the Coronavirus (COVID-19)? No 2. Does someone you know have/had it? No 3. Do you know someone that has died from it? No 4. Have you lost your job or been financially impacted by it? I'm going to lose my job (management consultant), but for another reason (we are two in the firm and my boss is going to stop working so I have to find something else). The prospects of finding a new job are not great right now, especially as a consultant as the majority of clients stopped their projects. I think I should be able to find something in september. Might be impossible before that as almost nobody works in July/August in France with the holidays and everything. We shall see!
Seems like mk, kleinbl00 and you are three against 0, so I'm going to follow your advice and not get scammed. Thanks :)
Thanks mk, after reading your comment and kleinbl00, it definitely seems like its not the best course of action.
Thanks for the heads-up. Thought I would be able to see the scammers by checking history records & transactions amounts, but you are right, it's a risk I'm not willing to take.
Thanks veen!
I'm wondering if I should order 1000 N95 masks from Alibaba for ~ 1500€. I feel like the nurses and kind of everybody would need it in Paris. But I don't know if such a small order would help in any way. Is that crazy ? To try to do that on an individual basis ? Might be too late.
Seems like it's insane to give counter-indications on such issues. It's like there are two parents, one being the French Health Minister and the other the European Medicines Agency, and one says "you can go out to see your gf" and the other "you have to stay home". Fucking hell, how stupid can that be in a crisis. Just don't use ibuprofen and take alternatives that have less chance to fuck you up, why would you put up your health for gamble ? even if ibuprofen isn't a risk, just don't try it, because it might be. So upset by how western countries are handling all this.
Sounds like a lovely holiday. I'm really happy that you enjoyed your time there ! Thanks for sharing.
Love your perspective of the city :) I have a few questions! - Where did you go to eat ? Did you find anything worth mentioning/sharing ? Did you like the food ? - What did you visit ? What stood out the most ? - Where french people that you interacted with "nice" ? How was their english ? If you have some pictures, I would love to see what caught your eyes.
Might be able to count me in an European meetup!
Awesome! How many days do you have? Off the top of my head: - Le Moulin Rouge : went there with my family for the 50 year wedding anniversary of my grandpa, everybody loved the show. Its a unique experience you will remember. - Le Louvre / Orsay - Jardin du Luxembourg - Sacré Coeur - Get up the Tour Montparnasse if you want to have the best view of Paris -- A side trip to Versailles is easily doable if you want to go there. I will be there so if you need anything anytime, just ping me!
We did it solo (a friend and me). It was quite hard to carry everything (especially heavy weight stuff : tent-food-sleeping mat-cooking stuff-sleeping bag) but we pushed through :) Will watch your video tomorrow on my bus ride to the multicolor mountain (can't seem to do that one without a guided tour :/)
Great! Did you went without a guide? If so, any tips I should know before going there? How did you manage food for 4-5 days?
That was really nice thenewgreen. I almost burst into tears on my daily commute to Paris, probably would have if I was alone. Thank you.
Thanks! We are planning to do the Salkantay Trek in 4 days with my friend. You might have done the Inca Trail and both looks amazing. Will definitely write a tripreport about my time there in september :)
My girlfriend dumped me. It was only 2 months in, but I had (still have) feelings for her. It sucks. I'm torn between trying to get her back on one hand and forgetting/accepting it entirely on the other hand. I feel like she decided to quit at the first hiccup and that makes me sad. I will be spending a month in Peru in August, so I'm looking forward to that.
