I know how you feel. Sometimes you just feel like no one understands you, that you have this whole universe in your head that other people don't. But the thing that I've realized is that others actually do have their own universes, it's just hard for me to get to those, because I don't connect with that person very well, or we are too different, or just because of circumstance and inconvenience I don't get to know that person well. I think you just have to accept that few people are going to share the exact same universe as you, but that perhaps you can find people to share bits and pieces of that universe to start with. Just wanted to say I understand how you feel!
Haha, yeah I've realized and accepted that I'm not going to have a ton of good friends for this very reason. I am still looking to form some solid friendships though, hopefully have a little group that I can feel close to. But yes, it's something to keep in mind, thanks. I find myself lucky to have such a good relationship with my boyfriend and a strong friendship with my far-away best friend, and try to cultivate any other friendships along the way.
I think it would be nice to get more direct notifications when other people have replied to your comment(s). Would be more interactive that way.
I actually finished this weekend, it was so good! I couldn't stop thinking about it for a few days. Such a gripping show, especially towards the end. Thank you so much for recommending it to me!
That's the strategy that I'm currently trying to implement. Hopefully it will work out at some point! Thanks for the advice.
Yeah, that's a good idea. I do have quite a few interests so I shouldn't have a problem finding events to attend or places to go where I'd be likely to meet people.
Yeah, I should just keep trying to put myself out there and sooner or later I'll find at least one person whom I feel I can connect with, and it can keep building from there. It can be tiresome to try and try and never feel like you're getting something from the effort you put in, but I'm thinking it's better than not trying at all...! A circle of 5 or 6 friends is something I'd absolutely love to have. I agree it would be tiresome to try to maintain many more friendships than that!
Watched the first episode last night. Really got me intrigued, and the landscape is stunning. Will keep watching :)
I liked the Wire a lot. I feel like it portrays the cop world extremely authentically. It starts off slow but it's because they have to introduce the cast of characters and set it up well. At some point they pick up the pace and it gets more complex and interesting from there. And yes, Idris Elba does have a great American accent, but I've seen trailers for Luther and I think I'll manage to get used to his Britishness.
I've been wanting to get started on Luther for a while, actually! I watched the first season of the Wire and I really like Idris Elba. After this recommendation I really want to start watching it finally.
Will check all of this out, thanks! I'm actually Norwegian so Hellfjord will not be a problem for me to understand, though I might need to find good subtitles for my boyfriend and any friends that might wanna watch with me...
Oh this looks good! Will definitely check it out.
Thanks! Yeah I don't know any of these really, so will be interesting to read about them.
This was a really cool read, especially because I am a population geneticist and work on projects related to evolution every day. Don't know much about the evolution of life, actually, so was fun to get into that here.
I really had a fun time reading this article. At first I thought it was just going to be an interesting crime story, but it turned out to be much more than that. I actually read it in Norwegian, since it was originally written in that language and I am from Norway. Thanks for sharing this!
Yes, same!
It's interesting that the father's age only matters for women under 30 years old (as in, the father's age affects the incidence of autism). For older mothers the age of the father does not seem to have any significant effect. I wonder why that is.
These guys are Norwegian! (I'm Norwegian so it's great when Norwegian artists get attention). Their most well-known song is Beggin, which is also very catchy (a favorite of bboys and bgirls):
This guy seems cool; too bad I don't live in Washington, or else I would definitely take one of those classes... Will check it out, thanks!
Interesting, had not thought to check the fiber content of my chocolate. Will definitely think about this when I go on my next shopping trip (read: spree) for chocolate...
I actually worked with Ozgur Sahin for a bit when I joined Columbia as a Ph.D. student. He is an insanely creative and intelligent person who has tons of ideas about how to use the physical properties of biological systems to solve existing problems in engineering and the like. Really happy that people are paying attention to his work.
