I've been seeing comments elsewhere comparing this situation to transgenderism and stating that she should be let off the hook because she "identifies" as black. I really don't think it's the same. Identifying as another gender and taking steps to transform yourself into the opposite sex has more to do with brain chemistry and hormones. This lady is (was) actively deceiving those around her with lies about her parent's race.

At the same time, I fear that this may turn into a witchhunt. Really all that needs to happen is for her to apologize for her lies and then the NAACP can decide what action they'd like to take. Her comments so far are pretty unapologetic though. I can already see that she's going to get raked over the coals by the public. I believe she's very much in the wrong here, but what's about to happen to her, I wouldn't wish on anyone.
