The only long term solution to housing shortages is to build more housing. Gentrification is merely a byproduct of newcomers having nowhere else to go. Short of enacting segregation ordinances there is nothing that can be done to stop newcomers from moving into neighbourhoods in search of cheaper rent other than to build new, denser housing for them.
Name: Ice_Picked Location; London Current Preoccupation: Politics, Economics, Geography aswell as "explainingthefuture.com" a cool website I found about future trends. Love listening to "the economist" radio. Previous Preoccupations: Cold war History (username is a reference to Trotsky's death) aswell as binge watching the x-files (depressing ending to the series tho).
A few thoughts on this; This happening in England as well All across the Anglosphere, foreign money, Chinese millionaires and a shortage in supply have driven up prices to the extreme. I was in Vancouver the other day, a small 2 bed costs well over a million dollars. Chinese Money, in particular, has been hurting Pacific Nations. A friend of mine lives in LA and apparently large numbers of Chinese "investors" have bought up large homes as ways to get their children citizenship. God knows when this insanity will end.
Chilling to think that we still haven't advanced much beyond the Titanic.
"May you live in interesting times" - Chinese Curse * * Well that was technically a translation error, but you get the point
Hey! I came to this site as a way to escape reddits steady conversion into a sort quasi-facebook. It looks like one of the few places on the internet where you can have a reasonable discussion. Looking forward to exploring the site!
