I've often argued as well that reasoning alone hasn't led to secularization. Reasoning is important in that one of religions functions is explanation. And it just doesn't explain reality well at all. So reasoning led to the separation of "church and state". But for a lot of people they have ceased to become religious for social and structural reasons. Good interview.
