Great discussion today on a financial show (not Dave Ramsey) about filing status for SSM, the marriage penalty, how many years they can go back, how to account for post-tax-spousal coverage, etc.
Sounds like quite a mess - some states require that you use your federal return as your state return and some of them don't recognize SSM, so there's no way (known) to file your state taxes, etc.
Federalism....

Conventional logic would say that if a couple is required to use their federal return as their state return, then that state automatically accepts and recognizes any standards and definitions the federal government uses for this purpose. Legal logic, however...
