This was a good week for guitars.
Suffering Bodies - Will Suffer No More is Lee Bartow, Kristoffer Oustad and Francesco Gemelli, and it is even better than it sounds. Listen to this album.
Maria False - Death/Mary really wants to be My Bloody Valentine, but who can blame them?
(flagamuffin, it looks like you've come back. Let me know if/when you want your thread back)
Cayucas - A Summer Thing Really out of character for me. Sounds like The Beach Boys only drunk.
I really dig this. Apt description btw. I'm going to pick this album up. Thanks.
So upon first listen, these are my thoughts; If you like the song that you posted you will likely like all of the other tracks as well. Reason being, there isn't a lot of variance on the album. Every song has the same sort of set up. Everything is reverbed out to the max, jangly acoustic guitars, heavy bass, tambourines, bells and hand claps. I enjoyed this type of music, so I'm happy with the purchase. However, after a little bit the whole drowning everything in reverb gets old in my opinion. Especially when the vocals sound the same on each track. I like some variance in an album, and this doesn't really have it. So if you want a collection of songs that can show up in random settings, I'd say pick it up. Otherwise, if you're looking to listen to an album straight through, while this has continuity of sound, it does get a bit dull.. Too much continuity in my opinion.
Nah man, you're good with it. If you get tired of it I'll take it back just say the word. This afternoon I sorted through my to-listen albums list. Knocked out some Badfinger, Surf Noir from Beat Connection, that amazing Nick Waterhouse album, etc.
Bit of a random mix thus far: Amok - Judge, Jury and Executioner, which is a bit like Radiohead/Thom Yorke but less depressing; Rossini - Ouverture: La gazza ladra; and, Tim Minchin's 3 Minute Song for comic relief.
I recently put together my 7th summer set on Soundcloud... Just an easy way to collect the stuff I've been into these past couple of weeks. Includes: King Krule, Sibille Attar, The Love Language, The Naked and Famous, MTNS, Minks, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, The Bongos, Superchunk, Au Revoir Simone, Veronica Falls, Active Child, Keep Shelly in Athens, Anna Calvi and Aqua Roja.
I've been into Ms Mr and Haim this week, as they played in my town a week ago and I quite enjoyed that. Ms Mr is a kind of Florence and the Machine / The XX sound, dreamy and long vocals. Haim has this Fleetwood Mac vibe that I like, even though their voices are more 'raw'. Besides that I am still playing Jinja Safari's album. Love it when that bass kicks in.
I don't listen to new music as often as I oughta, but I picked up "Blackbird" by Fat Freddy's Drop last week, it's good stuff.
I've been listening to Fol Chen's The False Alarms. Fol Chen - I.O.U Incidentally, I listened to the latest My Bloody Valentine a little bit this week. It didn't really stick with me, to be honest.
I saw Fol Chen open for Darwin Deez a couples years back at 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis! One of the strangest bands I've seen and heard. Very, very cool though. Didn't realize they had a new one out! Thanks for sharing, I'm digging this tune.
Yeah, I can't remember where I heard this song, but I'd never heard of them before. Their wikipedia entry is pretty interesting. I'll have to check out their other two albums.
I've been listening to Vampire Weekend the past week. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. While there are a few songs I really like, I'm not much of a fan. I just can't quite really feel their music, and I'm not sure why.
I've been listening to LCD Sound Systems This is Happening a lot this week. -Been on heavy rotation. Conversely, I listened to a bit of Brahm's Ein Deutsches Requiem -Ther German Requeim tonight while attending a friends dance recital. It reminded me of how much I enjoy that piece of somber music. Incredibly sad and dark at times.
BADBADNOTGOOD - Fall In Love It's always been my dream to take the jazz degree I'm going to get in the Spring and use it toward hip hop jazz. Just as these guys have done. Gungor - You Have Me I found out that one of my roommates has a banjo, so I've been trying to learn this song on it. I like this band because although they're a Christian group, their lyrics are generally vague enough to be applicable to any sort of spirituality.
Also, I grew up with the cello player.
My friend finally released a music video! Always love his stuff. Spiders, Cameron West From there, a lot of Korean indie. My two favorite discoveries: Jack is running, Mood Salon. Sometimes be crazy when you want to hold it, Autumn Vacation
