The Way Things Work by David Macaulay

The Mysterious Stranger and Other Stories by Mark Twain

A college level Biology textbook

The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien

Labyrinths: Selected Stories and Other Writings by Jorge Luis Borges

I just noticed that I have little nests of books around areas that I like to relax in. About every room in my home has some kind of bookshelf, but I think this stems to when I slept with books as a kid and imagine I was in the book with the characters.

The Silmarillion sits on a bookshelf above my bed and always will. Has to be within arm's reach even in the era of the internet.

There's a great satisfaction in having instant resources. Using a search engine ruins it for me, but I can't word exactly how.

Could it be a tactile thing?

Not at all.

It's the quiet tumult of trying to find a nicely formatted edition through a very addled middle man.

Do you know what I mean?

I think I do.

For me it's memories. I read the Silmarillion before I used the internet.

Adding the phrase "before I used the internet" sounds infinitely more impressive than "when I was a kid".

Saying that I read it before 9/11 however...

I believe I did. It would've been about that time, I guess.
