The market research keeps getting more and more invasive. I wonder how many people realize that those "loyalty" programs, where you get a discount for swiping a card every time you shop, are really just a neat way to get your shopping habits in an easy to track computer system.

I use my mom's loyalty ID at Kroger. If they ever looked, they'd probably wonder why she drives so far for groceries. Perhaps we should all share a loyalty number and create an uber-shopper, unconstrained by time and distance.

I also find it annoying when I buy something and they ask "And can I have your phone number?" No. My wife always gives them the same number that isn't hers. I feel bad for whoever does have that number.
