They tried that here in CA with Meg Whitman and the run for governor. A lot of people thought that her experience with eBay would help our budget woes. The majority decided otherwise and elected the highly unpopular (irony alert) two-term governor Jerry Brown. In this case, a career politician beat out a business woman. In case you wondered, Meg Whitman is currently dismantling HP as their CEO.

From Wiktionary: An expert in some technology, especially one in a managerial or administrative role.

I think it was Whitman's experience that allowed people to lump her in the "technocrat" camp, not her MBA. The judgment as to whether or not she is an "expert" is subjective.

If financial success is any indicator of accomplishment then you could hardly discount her in this conversation - whether you agree with her politics or not.
