Surveillance - Rise. Side project Assemblage 23 is working on; there's an indiegogo campaign. I'd gotten pretty sick of futurepop a few years ago, but I'm loving this. Looking forward to the album.
Android Lust - Worlock. A Skinny Puppy cover someone picked as their reward for the Crater Volume 1 kickstarter. One of the most successful Skinny Puppy covers I've ever heard, which admittedly isn't a high bar. She makes it sound resigned, which is sort of appropriate 23 years after the original. Like screaming doesn't change anything either, so what are you going to do?
Ashley Reaks - Power Failure. It was in this week's Vital Weekly. They didn't know what to say about it either.
I've recently tried picking up flamenco guitar, so I've been listening to a lot of Paco de Lucia's work.
I've finally gotten around to listening to CHVRCHES and they do not disappoint at all. Might go see them with my friend in Boston next weekend. On the opposite end of the spectrum, I've also been listening to Deafheaven, who recently released Sunbather, which has quickly risen the ranks of my favorite albums of the year. Seriously, these guys are incredible. It's not for everybody though, they're a Black Metal / Post-Black Metal band.
Listening to a little Hoodie Allen lately, just found him myself though he appears to be pretty popular. Kind of digging it though so far. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t431MAUQlQ Bonus Chiddy feature:
There's an animated video for my track 'Jesus In The Manger' from 'Power Failure' here - http://youtu.be/-6Z1JAq9R2k
Sun Bear are playing on the radio show I work at tonight, and I've only just checked out their stuff. It's really nice, some pretty rocky post-rock with vocals. Sweet stuff. Also, I met Little Lapin properly at the start of last month and only just got her EP. Absolutely fantastic poppy folky stuff. Listen to "Silent Tears", it's brilliant and wonderfully catchy.
Been jamming on some local favorites this week. Both of them, coincidentally, share a fair amount of musical DNA. First, The Moondoggies, who are not at all as well known as they ought to be. Second, The Maldives, whose whole (new) album I've been meaning to pick up. These guys are really nice, too, which allows me to appreciate their music more.
I listened to the entire Sea and Cake album Oui. I say "entire" because it's rare I find enough time to listen to something in entirety. I once gave this as a gift to bgood79. -You ever listen to this? I think it's a fantastic album. I also listened to one of my favorite bands of late Field Music
Yes, they are a quite good band. sounds_sound introduced me to them years ago. When I was on our first date with "J", she mentioned them as one of her favorite current groups. I took that as a sign that I should marry her. Quite misleading. I kid.
Lone - Airglow Fires may possibly end up being my favorite song released this year. I've also been digging these two songs: Paramore - Grow Up and Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn
