Oh yea he 'discovered' his approach and made it famous. I don't mean to say that he didn't deserve his success, I just think that on a skill level I look at Manet for example and I know I could never produce something like it.

Most of the early modernist and people like pollock were trained to paint in a realist style, but whats the point? Artistically there really isn't anything new to discover by painting another Manet.
