I am quite eager for feedback on this video as I am very new to this. That is: video recording and editing, dictating game commentary as I play, and making entertaining YouTube videos in general.
So, constructive criticism welcome :)
Obligatory spoiler warning for those who haven't played the game Dear Esther and are interested in experiencing it for themselves!
I thought you did a nice job setting up the segment and then during the segment you were a good tour guide because you don't talk too much. That's nice. Some people like to hear the sound of their own voice too much or they assume their audience is dumb and needs to hear about even the simplest things. The game looks amazing. I haven't gamed in many years and it's clear to me I'm missing out. I think your play through may have inspired me to get a game system. Seems like it's something my wife and I could do together that would be way more interactive than just watching a television series. I know I'm not the audience you are looking for regarding feedback, but... nice work.
I really appreciate the feedback. I'm glad this has made you think about getting back into gaming! Dear Esther is definitely a very different sort of 'game' (many argue that it's not really a game but rather an 'experience'). I think that while 'traditional' games like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed or Tomb Raider take up much of the market, indie games like this are starting to emerge and challenge what it means to be a 'game'. Luckily games like this aren't too resource intensive so many computer can run them (though at lower settings some of the details may be lost). A similar game to Dear Esther is Proteus, another "explore an island" type of game - but with no specific narrative.
